Didn't feel like the Stoner/Doom thread was enough. You know Acid Folk, Krautrock, Progressive stuff and the like.

Ramases - Life Child

Kurt Vile - Overnite Religion

Comus - Drip Drip

Far East Family Band - River Of Soul

Yeah, but it was still sweet. 13th floor is obligatory.

Was definitely in a tripped out music mode.

If anyone has not seen this I highly recommend it. Sort of a rough overview but good anyways. Rest of the parts are on youtube.

what are the monks considered? proto-kraut? they're not even from germany. whatever.

sun araw is the man

i've always been interested in what gets classified as psychedelic. it can go from bubblegum shit like ohio express right up to the borders of metal and noise. anyone know a good book about this?

Yes, I remember when I started getting into weirder music and reading about bands like Love and Zombies etc. I bought these psychedelic masterpieces and always felt a bit underwhelmed as I expected something really really crazy. I grew to love those bands though.

Don't know of a book on it unfortunately.

As far as an overview of the history of psychedelia, it's just too big to cover well.
there are lots of cool books on it, though.

Krautrocksampler that someone linked to earlier, Japrocksampler also by Julian Cope (the Head Heritage website he runs is a great resource as well), another good Krautrock book that came out recently was Krautrock:Cosmic Rock and Its Legacy. If you can find one and don't mind spending some bucks, Acid Archives is a great book. I'm really glad I spent the dough on it. It is geared more to record collectors, though.

Yeah I would have to say music being psychedelic is a state of mind/mood thing. Sometimes any song can dig at my soul if I'm in the right place or time or mindset. But I guess this thread is mostly for groovy spaced out jams and some progressive stuff.

Keep it comin.

I have Krautrock:Cosmic Rock and Its Legacy, really nice. But haven't got around to actually read it yet.
Haven't read any of Julian Cope's books, wanna get both at some time.

start with the funkadelic record "maggot brain"

next dig into the super session

and finally learn that space is the place with sun ra and his arkestra

and climb the mountains of the moon

people can knock on the Dead all day long, but read some early Robert Hunter lyrics and it's an acid test.

"the eleven"

No more time to tell how
This is the season of what
Now is the time of returning
With our thought jewels polished and gleaming

Now is the time past believing
The child has relinquished the reign
Now is the test of the boomerang
Tossed in the night of redeeming

Eight-sided whispering hallelujah hatrack
Seven-faced marble eye transitory dream doll
Six proud walkers on jingle-bell rainbow
Five men writing in fingers of gold
Four men tracking the great white sperm whale
Three girls wait in a foreign dominion
Ride in the whalebelly
Fade away in moonlight
Sink beneath the waters
To the coral sands below
Now is the time of returning

S.E.

I was stoked these guys were in the new color mag, but they kinda come off as kooks. Maybe a little more drone than psych but at least it's recent. This is my favourite track off their album dins, haven't heard their most recent.
