My top 5 albums in no particular order are probably:

Parquet Courts - Wide Awake
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever - Hope Downs
Courtney Barnett - Tell Me How You Really Feel
Ty Segal & White Fence - Joy
Marbled Eye - Leisure

Great year overall. I heard tons of new stuff that I liked and probably forgot a whole bunch. My list was all stuff that I keep coming back to and can listen to from start to finish. Here are my favorite tracks from each.

Working my way through your post today at work JB, I like that Courtney Barnett song a lot, I'd seen her name around but never actually heard her music.

Somebody tell me what rap I've been missing out on this year, I've mostly just been listening to this:

I enjoyed those. Thanks!

This year I have gotten into a bunch of contemporary jazz. I saw Ezrah Collective, Kamsi Washington and Shabaka Hutchingson and the ancestors live. All three were great shows and I kept listening to their music after. I also enjoyed listening to Jay Rock and I will see him live in the beginning of next year.

Oh, I just saw Kamasi Washington's album came out in 2015. It is still pretty good, though.

Fuck it. Round 2.

Wand's Perfume EP was on that really impressed me. I've never been a huge fan and just put it on as background music while I cleaned the house one day. I was a little bit stoned at the time and had to stop doing what I was doing when it got to the second part of the first track just to make sure it was actually as good as I thought I was hearing. The track smokes and still gives me a rush every time I play it. I could listen to the outro jam on a 30 minute loop and probably not get sick of it. The rest of the album is great too. Really great mix of sounds and moods for such a short album. Goes from beautiful to scary and all over the place. For whatever reason, I can't find any of the studio songs on youtube and this is the only live version of the song I mentioned above. It doesn't do it justice, but what the hell.

I really dug Exit Groups "Adverse Habitat" album too. Kinda weird post-punky stuff. I love the guitar playing on this one.

The new Sauna Youth album is solid. I think I still prefer their first album to this year's, but it still gets plenty of plays from me.

Almost the same story with the new Idles album. It's getting tons of attention on a lot of year end lists, but I liked their last one more. I feel like the new one was a lot more stripped down and the instrumentation took a pretty big hit. Joy just doesn't seems to go as hard as Brutalism. However, I really loved the effect the stripped down approach had on the lyrics. I don't pay much attention to lyrics, but these were so raw that it was impossible for them to go unnoticed. I put off a second listen for a really long time because Joe's song about losing his unborn daughter put me right on the edge of tears the first time I heard it. It's a very emotional album for a punk album. Anyway, I think this song rips and the second part is great. "I'm like Stone Cold Steve Austin. I put homophones in coffins" has got to be one of the best lyrics of the year.

Sextile's "3" ep was really great too. Dark 80's style synth wavy stuff.

Did you see the video for Anthemic Agressor? It's 13 minutes of two alien puppets smoking a joint.

i'll just share some favorite releases from 2018:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWkok7rDxgY

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjt6tZmuoWM&list=PLPPBmB5DzGA2t9Xm785DjTIWtfrvgztU6

i had high hopes for testing, nasir and ye but they were all kinda disappointments for me. couldn't get into astroworld or even pusha's album either.

i haven't had a chance to listen to the new anderson paak release but I'm hoping it could be on this list
Let me preface this post with the fact that I am slightly inebriated, very uneducated and I havent read any papers or done any research at all, or read your post really.

I really liked like the first half of that Pusha T release.

I just started listening to Greedo this year:

He kills it, hope he wins an appeal or something.

Chronophage - Prolog For Tomorrow

Olgaa - Fortuna
https://olgaa.bandcamp.com/

Itasca - Morning Flower
https://itasca.bandcamp.com/album/morning-flower

Mayako XO - Mayako XO
https://mayakoxo.bandcamp.com/releases

Some of my favorite releases of the year have been by some friends, these two topping off.

Eiko Ishibashi - The Dream My Bones Dream
https://eikoishibashi.bandcamp.com/album/the-dream-my-bones-dream
This record really startled me; fantastic!

Low - Double Negative

Gun Outfit - Out of Range

Pious Faults  - Old Thread

S.H.I.T. - What Do You Stand For?

CCFX - The Remixes

I thought the Royal Trux single with Kool Keith was great! Having trouble recalling much more; I guess this just means these really stuck out!
