i get the general idea of this close footing thing but isn't that how most people ride when they aren't setting up for a trick?

like bombing a hill, or cruising around, for example? i'd say its more like feet on the bolts, or back foot on the tail, and front foot on the front bolts. who bombs hills clicking their heels like dorothy?

for another example, watch "Downey and Sakoff at Astoria" from the front page last monday. at 00:28 is a classic example of close-footing. he lands with his feet almost in position for the next trick, but for some reason puts them close together, only to have re-set up for the next trick??

I see what you're saying.  That does seem a bit contrived or premeditated, but that spot looks awesome.

skaters hanging out at the park instead of skating. ie being seen to be skating is cooler than actually skateing. fixed wheel bikes taking over from cruising on your board

Nah, these dudes will land a trick perfect bolts then jump into the air and reposition both feet in the dead center of their board and limp their wrists.

when you think about it, someone bombing a hill "close footing" like Dorothy, would be kind of awesome. you can't really powerslide or pop your nose up a bit for cracks or anything while doing that. quite the commitment.

Most of the shit that's been brought up in this thread so far are all still pretty recent trends.
I'm more tired of some older stuff.
Like homophobia (serious or not. even when used in joking terms I think its just really lame and disrespectful, and a sign of immaturity and someone who can't come up with a better way of explaining something. Its like when people swear a lot while talking, just because they have a limited vocabulary or think that it will always add more gravitas to what they're saying no matter how many times they [over]use it.)
Kids that are only focused on getting hooked up
Jocking
The clothes patrol and outfit police
Hypocrites (which we all are, or have been at some point, no matter what)
People that are oblivious to their hypocrisies
The overly sensitive, and the insensitive.
99% of rich people
People that beg for money
Socially inept weirdos that feel the need to revel too much information to strangers face to face

but if I have to keep it current,
I hate it when people "tag" other people in photos on facebook that those people aren't actually in. its the lamest cry for attention where clearly none is warranted.

the other guys, maybe, but i don't see the problem with dylan's feet in that clip. are people really riding around like ape's when they aren't setting up for tricks? that seems even more odd.

That still wasn't the perfect example for close-feeting.  He sort of slid his feet towards the center.  I literally see dudes at the park after landing a trick do like a mini 2 inch high hippie jump close their feet together and reposition them in the center of the board.  It may have stemmed from Dylan(all those guilty of doing it have been wanna be Dylan clones), but they take it to a different extreme.

And no people aren't riding around like apes, they're riding around like every skateboarder ever prior to the close-footing trend.

i live in brooklyn, and skate all over nyc. this close-foot shit is blatant in these parts. maybe not elsehwere, though i doubt it (dylan). if you're not aware of this epidemic, then either you're a self-denying close-footer, or you're hood hasn't been plagued by them yet.

I am sometimes guilty of this, just feel fun and cruisy. Not in a line or when Im really trying something though.
Maybe its subconscious from watching the Dylan part. But so what?

- Beanies in 80+ degree weather
- Shoe laces as belts (that trend might be over)
- Vulcanized soles

I will be on the look out for close-footers at the park.

ive got no problem with close footers but that illustration is so freaking awesome!

what i do have a problem with are all the happy-sunshine-75%lifestyleshot-15%setup-10%trick with happy popmusic-edits
its smart to try and get some milage out of your clips but come one man, i really dont want to see someone stare at the sun ever other trick or fake laugh at a joke every edit. its like skateboarding has gone from throwing yourself off stairs to picking flowers in some utopian world.
a friend of mine once told me he didnt like blueprints recent flick becouse it didnt contain enough sunshine.

is this the first time the topic of "close-footing" has been brought up on slap? surprised if it is. unless you fellas have another name for it?

Kalis was talking about it a while back in the BATB 3 thread. He denied it after the Shane going to DC news came out.

Hey.. leave me out of this! haha
Better to lose and not have to go back... nah mean.
Some of these new kids take that shit hella serious though... flickin there hair... quirky smiles.. bouncing there feet to the center of the board after they make a trick.... boat shoes... real weird shit in the world of s.k.a.t.e.
Its pretty disgusting.

Those dudes definitely rock it, but kids don't follow that trend because of them, and you know that's the case 90% of the time.

Planking.

and that goes for the rest of life too.

SLAP's very own Ahlee actually invented planking. He started a little tumblr called "thefacedown" which got put on reedit and went huge the first week. Then the god damn Australians went wild with it nuts with it and now we have planking.

1. why? that shit aint funny, its just dumb. Theres no way you haven't already seen a million variations on that same picture all over the internet everyday for the past 5 years.

and 2. I really liked the last episode of curb where Larry David called out that annoying chick that played "Janice" from Friends for saying "L-O-L" outloud all the time.

so knock it off, you planking goon, or I'll put a hit on your head via the social assassin.
