I actually did hit another skater in the face with my shoe once at a demo doing a shoes fly off kickflip but he was cool with it.

Like Daewon said: if skateboarding is a ten story building, Rodney is on eleventh floor.

you guys still don't get it. i'll give you a real world situation: skaters get organized (to build a skatepark), get funds from the municipality (not enough), they reach out to shops/distributers and get shit.

then these same shops/distributers happly organize events at the said skatepark, because their investment will be minimal. and skaters have go with it, because they're just happy to get anything.

also - the economy might have gone to shit, but i've yet to see a skateshop close - on the contrary, there are more popping up. also, publicly-verifiable financial information give you exact figures of their profits - a staggering amount.

if non skaters buying skate clothing can kill skateboarding, skateboarding never deserved to last anyway.

As iffy as skateboarders get for seeing non skateboarders wearing brands from skate companies, the money travels quite a bit.
Considering companies do not make very much off of decks, they rely on apparel for an extra boost. This is a selling point because apparel can appeal to more people than just skateboarders.

I don't think non skaters wearing skate company clothes is really killing it, i mean if companies sell to those stores they wanted/needed the money right? It's kind off odd i've seen and bought product from random places not skateshops but i know i would have never seen it anywhere else, i remember seeing a throwback DGK new era, and Krew Hoody in this store and it was pretty cheap i guess the store owners didn't think it would sell cause they probably never heard of it....I think companies do a good job of keeping new stuff in skateshops and getting rid of old dead stock in random places too....

without those people your local skateshop would be out of business in a minute.
[close]

True. I know for a fact that without non-skaters, my local shop would have closed years ago. The owner as told me several times that the actual skate product barely generates any income at all.

Still, I can't say it matters that much in the end. When I started skating there were probably 5 pros on the planet who were actually making a living at it. Contests were held in parking lots with a couple hundred people and prize money was a hundred bucks and some cheesy trophy. There weren't a zillion choices as far as product, accessories, etc. There were 2 magazines and like 3 videos out. No skateparks and no TV coverage.

And guess what? Skateboarding was still fun. If the industry shrinks back down to the size it was in 1985, and nobody's making money off it anymore, I couldn't give less of a shit.

real shit right here. skateboarding is what YOU make. so if YOU get bothered by the fact that we are some fashion forward ass niggas that get our style swagger jacked by hipsters then thats your problem. as much as the industry's changed since i first started, i still have the same amount of fun skateboarding now as i did back then.

besides, that poser count will help when asking your city to build public skateparks. trust me.

I kno skating is what you make it. But don't you guys want your favorite skaters to not have to work full time jobs outside of skating and be able to skate more/see more of them in video or print?

once again, skateboarding is in trouble, and the only ones who can save it are the hardcore lifers who have been here for 3 years or more!!!!
