Australian visiting US help?
« on: August 11, 2011, 08:03:17 AM »
In january next year I am travelling to Boston and LA for a uni trip/elective thing for two weeks. I am planning on spending an extra two weeks travelling around with a friend, skating and what not.

I am from Sydney, so I dont really know where I should head. Where is skateable in winter? Is a car needed? I was thinking san fran and la, but more help would be great. Im also assuming that the east coast is too cold to skate? Thanks

If you are staying in LA and Boston, and just want to skate downtown then I think the public transportation would be fine. If you wanna go to LA to San Francisco then I could see having a car would be useful..
East coast would cold and even snowing possibly, LA should be fine for winter, just cold..
What kind of spots do wanna to skate?

I hear stoner plaza, in LA is a most..
Eggs is a good ledge spot in boston, not sure if its skate stopped though..

hopefully that helps..

Thanks, this helps. ive been looking into stoner park and p-rods park. hopefully then we can ask around to find some spots. hoping to skate some ledges, high bank spot, etc. not so much big stair sets. Dont think I will be on the east coast for very long, so probably wont get much skating done until we get to la.

your board probably wont touch the ground in the boston january, but here in LA you'll be fine. if you're trying to see a lot while you are here and budget allows, try to stay inner city. the subways no one seems to know about will get you pretty far. the buses even farther. i can send you some google map links to spots and parks or hotels if you need em. staying near wilshire boulevard anywhere between downtown and santa monica will put you where you wanna be.

I can't think of any big bank spots that are close by LA area.. Be sides LA High School (4650 West Olympic Boulevard Los Angeles, CA) with the brick banks.. You also try hitting up Venice beach and Santa Monica beach.. Venice beach just got a new skate park with a big bowl and other stuff.. Down little beach little more is Santa Monica and they have the famous ledges and sand gaps.. They've been tons of videos..

Thanks, all this helps heaps. My friend works for an accor hotel over hear, so he can get us a pretty big discount on accor accomodation anywhere, so that shouldnt be a problem. As far as spots go, very open to suggestions. The brick banks were the ones i was thinking of, and ill be sure to hit up some touristy skate spots ha. would love to see third and army if i got to san fran. Even if its too cold, or raining, or windy, or capped, or whatever!

SF in january is probably not skate able.. check the weather out the before though.. LA to SF drive is about a 6 hour drive. Things to do in SF, visit pier 39 and try the clam chowder, skate 3rd and army, and check out chinatown and the food there is great! Those were some of things i did when i went to SF.
LA, check out santa monica beach there are store around there, check out the new skate park at venice beach, skate stoner park, eat some good food.. if you like mexican food, then El cholo's in santa monica is a most! 1025 Wilshire Boulevard Santa Monica, CA 90401-1906 (310) 899-1106
