ollie on small transition/bumps
« on: April 07, 2022, 01:55:36 AM »
Hi guys,

I am struggling to get my head around how to ollie from small transition.
For example from a small bump over a fire hydrant on the sidewalk.
Is there some sort of difference to ollies from bigger straight banks?

Thankful for any advice!

Make a a 1 foot (30cm) tall kicker/jump ramp and learn the timing. It's all about execution at the apex.

A transition ollie is harder than a flat or bank ollie because it takes more time to touch your tail and throws off your timing. Some people need to slow down some need to speed up, you just have to find out which one are you

That picture of Grant is 95% talent so don't get your hopes up if you can't boost it. You'll have fun either way

Thanks! Guess I'll try to focus on my timing then.
That Grant ollie is not what I am aiming for hah.

With the kicker, start by just going fast to ride off it with speed.

Start popping your tail and do little ollies with it when that's comfortable.

When it starts feeling natural, try popping for height.

Hopefully you'll recognize the slight boost that speed + bump + pop = elevation. With practice, you can turn the slight boost into a lot.

Have fun.

Loosen up and repeat : ‘just hit your tail….that’s all you have to do….’

The advice I was given and what has worked for me is to sit back. Because you’re going up an incline, if you sit back on it, there won’t be what feels like a drastic change in the pop time or effort, but you get substantially more boost when start to level out the Ollie.

Could be absolutely worthless info though, but this is what helped me learn how to Ollie up euros and later on, of kickers.

Easier to use street bumps. I think the only thing to keep in mind is that you're gonna jump really high and if you pop at the right time the board will follow, go very fast.

Find a place with one of those longer speed bumps and just try to Ollie from one side over the other. That’s how I got good at boosting off of bumps and curb cuts.
