Actually, that's a fucking horrible analogy, if you ask me. You don't compare basketball and skateboarding. You don't "play" skateboarding to "win," like you do in basketball. They are two completely different activities. Fuck off with the jock shit.
[close]

thats fine dude, then just read the first half of my post.
or don't.
cause this ain't the NBA, and this also ain't a jackson pollock painting.
maybe I should have used skateboarding as an analogy for skateboarding.
Or wait! No! Even better!
I should just not read all the posts that came before this page and completely disregard the merit and message in someones post over semantics, and get really caught up in the detail of one tiny little part of what they said, so I can claim 'core, instead of thinking constructively and trying to follow their point.
And anyways, technically, I wasn't making an analogy between basketball and skateboarding. I was making one between Jordan the human and Pops the human.

We're on the same side here, buddy. We both like Pops. I'm just saying that's a horrible analogy, and I'm also saying that the backlash on this part is understandable. But, let's use your analogy. Jordan is known for his crazy dunks, right? If we carry in the same vein, then it would be like Jordan putting out a clip of him doing a bunch of standard layups while a bum pukes in the corner and some partygoers walk past the court. Some people will dig it, but there's going to be a lot of folks, most of them fans, expressing their displeasure with it.

I'm not claiming anything, except that I was a bit letdown by this clip, and I prefer Mosaic era Pops to crazy tech Pops.

I always thought it seemed really regular to compare skaters to dudes that are legends or just crazy good like cards, reynolds, koston, daewon, torey, way etc...because those dudes are freaks of nature on a board and are on a whole different level than everyone else. Like when people say, "so what if this guy is in his 30's he should be throwing down harder like when he was younger, just look at reynolds, he's older and still jumps down big shit". Ya no shit, that dudes a total exception to the game. I think if pops heard someone comparing him to cards he would just laugh and be like, "I don't ever wanna be compared to anyone like that". As it should be.

The crazy thing about all of this is that for a guy you barely ever see coverage of, he gets a ridiculous amount of talk on these msg boards.

Some one PLEASE hurry and kick this piece of shit off of all his sponsors until he learns how to skate again.  Fuck I'm so tired of seeing his mediocre footage pollute my internets.

Don't think he's selling boards anymore since Chocolate only gave him 1 pro model this season and kicked him off their series decks.

kooks eh? well it's close to midnight here in san francisco & it's freezing & there are no indoor skateparks so there's no way i can skate. we're discussing things about skateboarding, something a lot of us take seriously because we love it. &talking about skating is what we do when we're not skating because we love it. &having an opinion that's against yours makes us kooks? look in the mirror, kook.

just a little off topic, the word kook starts to sound really funny/awkward after you say it a lot.
[close]

really can't imagine it being "freezing" in san francisco at midnight at this time of year, man up.

cool story, bro.

actually, if you've lived in san francisco your whole life, or even just lived here for a year, you'd know that we don't have seasons, so your whole "this time of year" point is invalid. it can be in the middle of summer & freezing, or in the winter & 70 degrees one day out of the week.

i just manned your bay area weather knowledge up. even though i think everybody but you knows what i just explained.

to me, this is the problem with the changes that the internet has brought to skateboarding... this is just a web clip, who cares if pops is doing 'hard tricks'? before all this web bullshit, real company and video mag parts were what made the skater.. pops is just an old style pro, and the fact that he even gave a clip to the berrics is pretty wild in my opinion. i'm stoked on the clip personally.

I find it funny that everyone's judgement of Pops comes off of web clips nowadays. A causality of the instant gratification age, I suppose.

Guys, really?

Look, I like Pops a lot too, but this is just plain bull shit! Do you guys even skate? Can you not see how weak he looks? Dude has got to start skating more, this is just pathetic!

Sorry, but if you can't see how feeble this was then you might be dumb.

Hahahah That never gets old.

To go from being one of the best in the world to what he is now I'd guess he either has a huge drug/ alcohol problem, a serious illness or some kind of Cardial type of injury. It's not like he's just not on top of his game, he can almost barely ride a skateboard or ollie... To me it's not even that he isn't trying, it's that he is now a completely talentless dude when it comes to skateboarding.

Does there need to be this much talk about it man? (I am aware that I'm only adding to it at this point) There's really no need to argue over it, some will always like him for what he did, like me, others won't. Some won't consider him worthy of sponsership, some will, (if you think about what he's done and that he still is a recodnized figure that a good number support then it makes sense for companies to still put his name on their stuff) but none of it actually matters. I hope for one last really cool part, if it doesn't happen it doesn't happen, whatever. This much talk, every time something about him is posted, is plain stupid.

never thought id ever see another ad of papplardo where i would say "wtf is going on in that ad??" i see what looks like a 20foot + drop on one side of the ledge, and judigng by the distance he had to gap into that grind....
