The FTC book is a must have for sure. High quality photos of your favorite skaters, good interviews and alot of history.

FTC book is rad.

T-Mag needs to get his shit together and make a nice coffee table H-Street book (though don't want to see nothing after the Lick era)

I mean this in all honesty with no disrespect: That sounds completely fucking regular.

I love skateboarding, but that's just it: I love SKATEBOARDING. I really don't give two hee-haw's what skateboarding means to some dude I've never heard of. And, out of all the things I could spend my time reading, I'm damn sure not gonna read that.

Sorry for the unhelpful post. I know this probably hurts you emotionally, but you'll be alright, though.

I totally understand what you mean, a few years ago I didn't give a damn about how skateboarding was perceived by other people. I just cared about doing it.

As I grew older and noticed I couldn't do the same things as before I really wondered why I cared about it...Why not just quit skateboarding?

That's when I started to realize that skateboarding was something else, something that I can't define yet....so that's why I became interested in books about it....I just would like to know why I love it so much even when I can't skate as often nor as intensely as before.

I wonder if that happened to some of you guys as well...

By the way, you did hurt me emotionally (I felt like some useless old man actually), but as you said it yourself, I'll be OK....

I think to fully understand why this love of skateboarding exists in our brains, it needs to be observed by psychologists and addiction specialists. Our brains need to be mapped to see what fires off when we think about skating, and while we skate. This wooden toy has a deeper affect on a lot of people than what most would think. In a way I feel like a drug addict, here’s a good example of why: I fucking hate the holidays, got a good session in yesterday and I was in such a better mood. Just like an addict going to the pain clinic to get my fix. Skateboarding completely changes the way your brain perceives the world around you. Normal people don’t look at stairs or ledges and wonder what the texture of the ground is like around them or wish that “man, if there was a little concrete instead of grass, that’d be a perfect spot”. Skateboarding has a deeper connection with us than any other activity. If you’re an avid SLAP user, I’m sure you know the feeling.

Former Blind AM Evan schiefelbine wrote a beatnik-esque fiction book called "the good fool"

I bought a copy directly from his website about a year ago. The writing is a tad questionable but it has awesome skateboard imagery and insight on what it may be to like to be in the industry and  meeting your heros in real life. Really great, especially if you have ever skated SF or NYC.

This one came out around 2006 and may be a little dated by this point, but it’s tales from pros and joes about the multiple forms of authority exerted on skateboarders.

There is one story in particular about a guy who moves to SF from WI a few years after his local hero/legend has, who he finds has since put down skating and picked up chemical dependence and homelessness.

The story is he cleans up his friend with the intention of having him stay/rehab with him, only to awake to find the addict friend missing in the morning, never to be found again.

I wish I could find this book again and find out if whoever wrote the story ever found his friend again.
I got beef with Brian sumner and it’s onsite for that fat fucking red coat.

More of a photo book and not really a book that is an answer to your question, but a book I've always considered to have an interesting and different approach is Sergej Vutuc's "Something In Between."

Also there is a new Viceland show that is currently in the process of being filmed that I think will be relevant to your questions/inquiry Alcol.

I really enjoyed Tony Hawk's book. It is a fast and easy read and pretty entertaining. I also really liked Dave Carnie's collection of articles he wrote for Big Brother:

I'll admit it.  I watched that whole Hermes commercial and kind of enjoyed it.
And Rodney mullens book was pretty terrible.

I'd love an attempt at disecting Skateboarding and the mindset of skaters by someone like Tim Ferriss.
