The deep web
« on: February 18, 2012, 10:30:40 PM »
The deep web is something that I have been aware of for a while now but have never had the courage to explore.

I saw it mentioned in another thread here and finally decided to go for it.

And now as a result I have read and seen things that I will go to bed tonight praying that they are fake.

has anyone else on here gone down?

They're just sites that aren't indexed. Its not a big deal.

In many cases intentionally and for very good reason.

That's not true. It's not like you can just type a URL into Firefox.

What? The onion sites don't use the dns your browser normally uses. That is why you don't just type in their urls and get it to work.

So wait, law enforcement or federal regulators can't access this shit but random dudes on Slap can? C'mon now. Also this quote makes me think it's a load of shit:
Total quality content of the deep Web is 1,000 to 2,000 times greater than that of the surface Web

Shit sounds like an Ali G quote.

It's real. If you don't know what you're doing. Don't go. Honeypots galore. Also without precautions, you put your computer at risk. As others have stated, it's not all that special. Just a shit load of CP, poorly written rape/murder/conspiracy/ect fiction and zoophiles. Feds are all over it, but it's not as easy as just IP tracing some loser for hosting illegal content. People who know what they're doing can use it almost completely anonymously. The Average Slap lurker, not so much.

I think that's because all internet directories, databases, academic stuff, companies' own records, govt stuff, etc etc are included in that non-surface web statistic.

One of the first things I did when I got my first computer was to start running around hacker networks trying to find out the wealth of hidden knowledge and see behind the curtain.  Back then, I was running AOL as my ISP.  I went to the bathroom while surfing some hacker site and by the time I got back somebody had already changed my desktop photo and god know what else.  I shut down by shutting off the surge protector.

Never.  Again.

It's sites not indexed by your average engines, relax fellas. most of it is infested with copypasta and person activity (if active), although significant amounts of CP and the like are distributed there, it has an equal FBI presence, etc. It's not mythical pathway to the cosmos. Browsing dumb shit will land you in dumb shit.

So in short, if you don't know how to use the net properly, stay away as in you could be a target for attacks depending on what you look for. I.E. targeted shit.

For the most part it's bunk.

Anonymity to buy drugs online, whilst providing a send-able address = transparency. The information age made things interesting. End on end, it's actually a waste of time, folks. Everything can be tracked, always someone better than what you do is out there.

Where's Grim's Take?

Wanna dive into the dumbshit tunnel, use Tor. (For newbie ass doofs who want to access the net's underling rumor mill)

I love the idea of the whistleblowing and great aspects this concept can offer, unfortunately it's mere doofs, fuck ups, and skilled hacker types fucking around.
