We're living in the big pants small wheels era of skate videos right now. Filming is getting tech, no one knows what they're doing and the end result looks like complete shit. People talk about internet killing the skate video, but for me it's the current medium. We get fancy saturated colors but the fluid motion and momentum is gone. Filming lines as we know is over, with the 16:9 aspect ratio there's just no room to properly capture what's going on.

Skating was absolute gnarballs from time to time and I hope the video could've done it some more justice. Evan is beast, Dylan is a beast, Jake and Gilbert are both beasts as well while Dennis is a double beast. Dan Wolfe, time has passed you by. That Russell van Houten guy was able to make it stand out as visually pleasing, although very polished.  As an honorable mention, anyone using that dreamy vignetting with skate footage deserves to have their balls chopped off.
dan wolfe is absolutely terrible, but don't blame it on hd. every single thing filmed in the alien section looked good, lines included. it never really occurred to me that the video was even filmed in all 16:9 until i actually thought about it, same with the evan smith section.

what was up with jason dill's yeah right ollie in the credits? had to be fake but it seemed pretty random to just throw in there with no context.

Guy, nobody is stopping you from saving skateboard cinematography(lol). Come on! The parts from Torsten Frank and Fat Bill really made me want to skate. Dan Wolfe and Rb Umali parts were pretty cool too - even though there's something off with the framerate or something, maybe because it was filmed on DSLR? - don't know, still didn't ruin it for me, far from it. My downloaded illegally copy stopped halfway through the film, so can't comment on the rest of it. I did skip Evan's part and the cement-park-part with stupid soft shit around the frame. Skipped the Manzoori part too, well, second time i watched it, I did. Anyway, some of this was really good - even Transworld couldn't ruin it with their normal corniness, they sure tried( the intro for one). Im out.

Have you seen Real's latest video? Or "The cinematographer project"? You don't have to know anything about filming or camers to realize how awful Dan Wolfe is.

you guys do know that the iTunes & internet versions are all 30p right?  that's why things look so fucked up and jittery sometimes with regards to frame rate.  try watching the 60i DVD or the 60p Blu-Ray and I think you'll notice that all the parts look much clearer and smoother.

Yeah, I just realized it's actually a sign of how much steadier and better all around filmers have become that Dan's footage looks so weirdly amateurish now.

He's pretty much filming the way he always has, but back in the day it didn't stand out so much.

Torsten frank recycled a lot of gonz footage and audio from adidas commercials. Still cheesy the second time around. Chewy cannon saves the day. Too sick.

Middlebrooks section needs to be talked about more. I was really surprised by jake duncomb. I thought he was a piled out leprechaun with a drinking problem. Totally wrong on that one. And all of dane burmans stuff made me feel like i was watching a sick zero section. Hats off.

Strobeck shouldve just used that song "playing with the boys" from top gun and cut in shots from the volleyball match. Ill re-edit it myself if i have to. A lot of meaningless filler footage from gonz and the guitarist. Not enough footage i guess? He couldnt just recycle some of his oldeer footage or get tino razo to soul skate a little? Jakes switch back nosebiunt. Boom. Olsons lines. Niiiice. Dylan skating. Fancy.

The busenitz line-ism school of skate is pretty heavy through this whole video. Smacks of it are seen prominently in manzoori's edit chewy cannons section dylans subway grate line evan smiths bench line and danny garcia and olsons lines at beverly hills/LA. Dennis' lines were still the sickest in the whole video though.

Russell houghtens edit was a mix of prudential insurance with a dash of bed bath and beyond and a heaping tablespoon of mitsubishi commercial. The skating was really good though. Im pretty sure a lot of that was footage from the imaginary analog video. Dylan had some really good stuff. If you took all his footage across the different cinematographers and credits roll he wouldve had enough footage for a new part. The same could be said about gilbert and jake.

Leo romeros school of rail skating is really up in the club here. Between jakes camo switch 5050 donovan and gilberts flat-to-rail tricks chaz ortiz's ender and dane burmans tow in 5050 and that 50-50 gap out over the stairs in dan wolfes section. Super pyched on the rail spot selection in this video.

Guru and dela had some great tricks and stefans wallride sw crooks was like magic as were all of his tricks. And every trick marius does looks classic.

Black dave is really good (good pickup zoo!) but kevin tierney shouldnt be sponsored. Eli reed and zered bassett really killed it with spots and tricks and as always brandon westgate murdered shit. Im glad rb umali realized that going dad rock on the song choice ala state of mind was a bad idea. Totally thought there'd be some axion riders with that song though.

I rewatched beagles part more that ld like to admit. I like that he was the only fool still doing it VX style. Best intro. So sin.

And theres nothing left to say that hasnt been said about the alien section. Bonkers.

And there was still lots of good footage in the credits.

Did anyone see the Highs and Lows section (it might be called Hot and Cold) of Transworld's April issue (Jack Curtain switch back 50-50ing clipper on the cover)? One of the lows was the demise of Megaupload. In the blurb they wrote something to effect of "fuck the corporate machine, long live the pirate!" Ha, then they sell the Cinematographer Project on iTunes. Man, Transworld is such a lame publication.
