beasties are pretty dope when you're tripping too. especially in a hooked up system, there are all kinds of random ass beats coming from here and there.

never thought about the tripping to the Beasties idea....there is some shit that's on Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head that would be fucking ridiculous

We used to party to the beasties non stop when Check Your Head was out. I remember hearing a kid a few years ago say something like "man I hope they don't play something lame like the beastie boys" and thinking, wow, I'm that old.

i think raga, indian, and middle eastern influenced music definitely would fall under "pyschedelic" more than almost anything else.

music with sitars drums and whirling woodwind instruments, like middle eastern music is pretty trippy. hinustani/hashish based melodies... great stuff. Pauls Boutique is through the roof when you're sack is in your head, flute loop, the chant... wheeeweee, man even though you said you're 40, cop some mushrooms and throw that record on! hahaha Paul butterfield blues band is great, super session.......

I get stoned to this Ravi Shankir and Philip Glass CD I've got quite alot.

One time while we were getting stoned we poured a bag of grass seeds on the floor to make it look like sand.

My buddy passed out from too much smoke and woke up surrounded by sand with Ravi Shankir live playing on the stereo.

I can only imagine how he felt.

start with these 10 albums-

Can - Ege Bamyasi

not to be confused with Presidents of The United States...heh.

then get the first 3 albums by these cats....

another krautrock gem

this is a rad mix put together by the Groove Merchant dudes.
you should get Diplo & Tripledouble's AEIOU Pt. 2 mix, too.
totally different from Diplo usual mashup/baile/grime/reggaeton/rkelly steez.

Richard Youngs - Advent It's like Syd Barrett resurfaces 20 years later, has a four track and an oboe. Ha, it's better than it sounds.

one to grow on-

for when you need Japanese noisepsych insanity.

Man, I cannot reiterate this post enough.

Funny seeing this again. I started this thread with my old account but I don't remember half of the posts in here. Dudestoffersons recomendations have indeed stood the test of time.

I was listening to that USA album yesterday. I think coming down may actually be the best psychedelic rock song ever.
Edit: except for venus in furs.

The leader of the group and driving creative force behind this album (Spider Barbour) lives right next to me. I always thought he was some sketchy Charles Manson look-a-like but it turns out he was a member of Mothers Of Invention for quite some time. The man is a mad genius similiar to that of Roky Erickson, someone who never quite got their due from music. Listen

I saw that this album came out today so I put it on for background music while I was cleaning my house and had to stop during the first song (this one) to check if it was actually as good as I thought it was. I had no expectations going into, wasn't anticipating it at all, but I comfortable calling the album an instant psych rock classic.

That Mainliner album posted above fucking rules. Was gonna ask if anybody was into the PSF Label stuff... like Mainliner, High Rise, Fushitsusha and Keiji Heino?  That stuff can get heavy and experimental but still very psych.
They also put out the Acid Mothers Temple, which is psychedelic as fuck.

Of course, it all stems from this:
