I can't wait to go to Belgium and get Belgian waffles. Also, go to Cafe Delirium.

i will for sure, just looking at the spots got me hyped.
are you directly from brussels? or is it that belgium is so small, everyone lives "near" brussels in some way?

If you find this horn, just so you know, it doesn't work.

Also, I ate escargot at a Halloween themed carnival in the middle of the summer and it was bad.
The skatepark is awesome.  Waffles and french for miles.

Bumping this thread because I'm going to live and work in Brussels from August-January.

Since I've never been there before, I have a couple of basic questions...

First of all, I'm still searching for a room, what are some good areas to live in? I heard that Ixelles is supposed to be good?

Also, any famous street spots? Or spots where it's easy to meet locals?

Lastly, anyone from Brussels/Belgium down to skate and/or drink those famous beers?

Thanks for any help  8)

ursulines skatepark has just kids, much better: go to trone. it's just a hangout spot where you skate flatground and drink beer but totally worth it. sessions go down almost every day, but you'll most certainly meet people un the late afternoon  or evening.
take the metro to trone, the spot is in front of the ING building

when you need a skateshop go to ride all day

have fries at masion antoine and avoid the touristic food street in the centre.

ixelles is nice we stayed in etterbeek right next to it.

enjoy the tripel karmeliter.

brussels is a really good city for skating. i live in antwerp (which is 30mins by train) and go there all the time. the skatepark is pretty good, but it's pretty much just worth it to explore the city by yourself (the center is not that big). I could recommend you to just walk up the hill(s). and just go from there on. let me know when any of you guys wants to go for a skate i'll be happy to join.

okay, one more question I have to ask... I keep reading all these stories online how Brussels is sketchy and full of pickpockets and muggers etc... has to be exaggerated, right? I've lived in the north of Paris and East-London amongst other places and never felt unsafe or seriously sketched out there... surely Brussels can't be "worse"? ease my mind pals...

i felt as safe as any in other european city. just use your oen judgement. sketchy park, or a small dark road with 3 sketchy dudes hanging out ther at 2 am? might as well take another way home.

Brussels is ok, ive never had any trouble there. The prostitute area is sketchy though. There used to be a cool ledge in that neighbourhood though.

Sketchy cities: Chareleroi and Liege. In Liege there used to be Russian/Bulgarian gangs that would rob skaters. Those dudes would lurk at spots, then one of a sudden come at you with knives and rob you.

Stay away from those cities.

HATE!

I've been robbed in Liege, it was back in 96-97 though.  I was waiting for a bus on my skateboard.  Happened pretty damn fast.

Gonna be passing through Brussels in a few days but I'm actually staying in Ghent.
