Working in Barcelona - language requirements
« on: February 21, 2019, 04:25:07 AM »
Anyone have experience working in Barcelona with limited Spanish proficiency? I realize that is obviously a desired skill. Industry would be IT (network admin, system admin, hell even support desk to get in the door).

Dude, it's actually not a problem at all.

I know a lot of English speakers who are just teaching without having to know a single word of Spanish.

It really depends from the kind of job, all the restaurants/bar require Spanish and Catalan as you'll interact with the general public.

Otherwise there are a lot of job opportunities over here for English speakers, for instance in the company I work for the only requirement was native english and an extra language was just a bonus.
The '80s were the worst period. You had these horrible pop bands growing their hair and calling themselves metal.

That is encouraging, I appreciate it.

Are you an EU citizen?

US, but from (very) brief research my passport would allow for 6 months of work while applying for a visa.

Why not learn it. There is plenty of sites you can learn for free (like doulingo) or take lessons. Even just get the basic's first.
