I feel your pain. I hate when a shoe breaks in and then its way too big. I have tried buying a half size down and that really doesn't work for me. It was like some part of the shoe does not stretch and only the parts that really did not matter ended up stretching. Also, my foot has been getting fatter, and I went up a half size in my non skate or shill shoes. Luckily the Janoskis work perfectly for me. Before they used to get a little overstretched after a few months. They would be a little tight for a few days, and then I would get a great deal of time with the perfect fit. Now with fatter feet they stretch out in an hour or two of skating and never really reach a point where they are over stretched. I think a lot of it comes from the design and the materials used or its just the perfect shape for my feet. What I am getting at is I think the best solution is find a pair of shoes and stick with those and get a system going so you are not alway obsessing over shoe size, as I used to. Also, the Janoskis may be expensive, but with a little shoe goo I think they are worth it, because they will out last two or three other types of shoe in my experience. So again find a shoe that works, stick with it, save up if you have to to get a shoe that won't break down, and buy some shoe goo to enhance your investment. Although I guess this thread was about stretching out shoes, so... in short I have never really been able to do it successfully, and really be 100% satisfied with the final product. Shoes break in through actual use, and it is very hard to speed up the process. Again, that is only my experience.
