STEVEN HUGHES & BUGGLE SWEET make a perfect pair  ! they already were prestigious zinesters before they met, but the mix of their art is a marriage made in heaven !

and under the name of MC SUNFLOWER JONES they are celebrating their love  and multiplying !

these zines are precious objects of desire ,full of delightful details, a real fetish  to any music fan !

i love the way they pick those key special moments , sheddind some light and revealing new angles to events that took place decades ago ! each and every one of it is a true masterpiece !

you will find them  right down cool kid row in LA ZINE FEST TODAY straight back from the entrance  with a table stuffed full of colorful zines aplenty !

HIRNPLATZT from Austria releases high luxury comix  in very limited runs . here are some of them :

VICTOR DUNKELS NECROFIXION is scary. feels like you are doing something really wrong and evil just by looking at it.disturbing revelations of black arts leading into eternal sin, truly inspired by the devil . this cat  from spain is the next Goya no doubt about it. a few centuries ago and they would have thrown him in the fire !

B.I.BURKE by MICHAEL OLIVO is an epic 50 page comix without words, an experimental take on rambo in his first night as a gay in the army tripping on acid ! absolutelly insane!

FIGHTING FOR FOOLISM  by JOHANNES STAHL looks like art from  medieval grimoires with some references from the future in them  . a beautiful collection of photos drawings and collages  .

SNOW & CO by DIETER VDO is a weird gang from hollow earth creatures and their delightful adventures  fighting for good vs evil.so much fun in the details  great art , great characters, one of the best comics ever !

you can learn more about them here

I'm trying to put a photo zine together of my skate crew/artsy friends in SF, I have no idea where to start as far as the physical process of making a zine goes. I'm looking for some good/decent quality paper & printing, you guys think it's better to gather everything myself and do it DIY style or make it happen with a publishing company/printing press? There's a place called photoworks that can do it that runs around $110 for about 20 copies in black and white, seems fair?

That seems fair if that's what your looking for, to me the whole fun of putting zines together is laying it all out yourself. However if you are looking for something that looks professional then the learning curve might be pretty steep.

Try downloading Adobe creative suite and messing around with InDesign. You can download version 2 or whatever for free online, a quick google search should help you track it down and from there a few YouTube tutorials should point you in the right direction.

I can help you out with any indesign or layout issues.

This thread got me a little inspired. I'm thinking about making a photo zine in a few months if I can come up with some good shots. I design booklets and shit all day at work, but I never get to do anything for myself really, so a zine sounds kinda fun.

the big apple has a great line of innovative zines and nobody exemplifies this better than MICHELLE SPADAFORE ! i will let her introduce herself :

= My grandmother was the original zinester. She d take me with her on errands and out to Chinese food. One of her regular errands was the local copy store where she would print up these little booklets which included her poems and drawings. We d go to the post office and she d mail out the booklets to family and friends. So, I feel like I'm carrying on a tradition somehow. Hope you dig it.=

well how cool is that !?!

HAIKU & HOLGA is the supreme delight ! Old school cut and paste mixed media. Full color version.block printing.a compilation of word snapshots and Holga photos make the magic happen !

what a trip !

i was hooked after the first line !!!

the melodies she creates are amazing you will naturally sing them in awe and love her sweet music , reading these poems late at night in silence !

and the images are so beautiful and dreamy !

i cant make them full justice !

any shoegazer fan out there waiting for the album of the year from my blood valentine or robin guthrie will get a fix out of this oustanding zine !you guys should really check it out this is really inspiring!

zines for zines or $2

Michael Loughlin
i think i know who you're referring to. he had a piece of the book 'apocalypse culture' by adam parfrey but i just tried finding about the cartoonist and nothing came up.
gg allin and jim goad were also in there as i recall.

yeah bro lets track him down he s gotta be somewhere
Michael Loughlin
23:26
Michael Loughlin
heh, maybe contact adam parfrey at feral house? i know jim goad mentioned the guy because he sorta got charged w/ thought crime or something. like you're sposedta have freedom of speech. goad either wrote about him on his website or name dropped him in taki's magazine. not recently but maybe in the past yr or so.

Brix Skwikz
yah bro you are in the right track
Michael Loughlin
23:29
Michael Loughlin
goad went to prison for hitting his girlfriend but mostly cause he wrote a zine talkin about 'let's hear it for violence against women' and made a bunch of feminists mad. i haven't read apocalypse culture since the mid 90s but i feel like everyone who was in it had a rough go of it afterwards.

wow man we should bring that to light !
