2045 Initiative (Human Immortality)
« on: July 30, 2012, 02:01:02 AM »
Quote
The 2045 Initiative, founded by Dmitry Itskov and other Russian Scientists in 2011, is a project that brings together researchers from all over the world with a common goal to achieve cybernetic immortality. In the quest to achieve their fantasy-like goal, they have undertaken some life-extension projects, among which the first one is to create a humanoid robot called "Avatar", and a state-of-the-art brain-computer interface system. In the next phase, they will create a life support system for the human brain and connect it to the "Avatar", while in the final phase of this project, these scientists will create an artificial brain that will breath original individual consciousness into the Avatar. The plan, as the name suggests, is to achieve all this by the year 2045.

Well, that's not it. There is another phase too - the fourth and ultimate step to create a hologram body or a body of light! Sounds absurd and unreal, but these are their actual plans. Whenever we come across anything that proposes immortality, the science folk become skeptical of the claims - Questions like what makes them think technology will develop fast enough to enable the type of advancement they envision by 2045? - start surfacing. Also come bundled with such claims are the considerations about ethical responsibilities. Should there be a system that will equal or surpass human "intelligence"?

Sounds brilliant except

Breath and Breathe

Breath is a noun that most often means the air that is inhaled and exhaled by creatures that experience respiration. Breath comes through the Middle English breth from Old English braeth. Breath is pronounced /BREHTH/. Breathe, on the other hand, is a transitive and intransitive verb the main meanings of which relate to the action of taking in and expelling breath. Breathe comes through the Middle English form brethen. It is pronounced /BRETH/. Here are examples of the use of the two words:

She was enormously relieved when she reached the surface of the lake and was able to take a breath.

Fish use their gills to ?breathe? underwater.

come now,

even if they managed to transfer a persons 'brain' into a computer.  It wouldnt be you. no DNA, no person.

this whole thing is ridiculous and quite frankly really scary.

I Imagine it would also be easier to develop a way to stimulate the natural growth hormones that lead to us growing our initial organs in the first place and altering them to renew currently living tissue to prevent the decay of our bodies.

or 'switching off the death gene' as they say.

Brings a whole new meaning to 'Extend it!'  I guess the current prototype brain-computer interface system has been developed using a combination of weed, beer, and dub-step to enable linkage?

Yeah I'm sure Russian scientists will be able to make a robot capable of interfacing with the human nervous system in a few years.
