Obama won my support with his gay marriage endorsement. Reelection means federal recognition of gay marriage and i want to be on the side of civil rights in 20 years.

obama, there's no way in hell I would let a mormon be president. I wouldn't even let a mormon be my boss.
That's stupid. I thought America was passed the stage of giving a fuck what peoples religon is and voting or not voting for someone because of it. Mormons aren't that bad compared to some right wing nuts.

I don't like puppets using staged political problems to sway minds from the real issues.  Obama changed his mind three times on the gay rights issue.  It's no different from his current appeal to illegals.  Looking for loyal voters caught up in mini-issues who are too distracted from what's really going on.  Real unemployment number are around 16%.  His policies have failed.  It's not just Obama.  It's two radically different parties trying as hard as they can to disagree when both of their plans and practices are unrealistic, unsustainable, and short-sighted.  This is a lose-lose scenario.

I really think something big is happening.  I'm pretty paranoid though.

As a gay man I can say reelection won't mean shit for federal recognition of gay marriage because he'd have to get it through Congress and now most likely the Supreme court as well. As much as I want to have the same legal standing with my fiance as all of you guys do with your current or future spouses it's an uphill battle because so many people dislike Obama and don't want him to accomplish anything, thus being blackballed by the Congress. Well, I suppose mainly just the house.

The SCOTUS has pretty much consistently ruled against 'traditional marriage' legislation since 2005-onwards. Section 3 has been declared unconstitutional. DoMA won't be defended from future constitutional contentions. Another 4 years of a liberal executive branch would really be the tipping point for national recognition.

Did ya'll notice that Romney flubbed up the announcement by saying

"Introducing the next president of the united states" in relation to Paul Ryan

Instead of "VICE" president.

are there any modern democracies with more than two viable parties (parties that get real power)? i really think that it's a simple matter of logistics that causes it to organize in that way.
[close]

Britain, Canada, and Australia? There are probably more but those are three obvious examples. Granted the former 2 still use the FPTP system but Australia uses IRV to elect the house of reps.

no,  In Australia it is one of only two parties that can form government. No-one else could even come close.   Theres a different between a minority government forming a coalition,  and a minor party controlling decision making.      Given that our stupid government has just declared war on our billionaires as well, citing 'bruce springsteen' as inspiration. I really hold out zero hope of ever getting decent governance.

tax rate is in the high 60% over there.

my dad moved back recently and he can't believe how expensive it is to live there. in fairness though he moved from southeast asia which is the other end of the spectrum.

but our government is having a pretty serious go at Gina Reinhart in particular about the enormity of her wealth and public opposition to certain government policies about carbon taxation.

every since obama won we've been heading in a better direction

Like drone bombing assassinations of US citizen minors?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdul-Rahman_al-Awlaki

You kids should stick to analyzing foot placements on flip trick landings, retro board graphics and sneaker colorways because the overall level of political ignorance in here is just appalling.

Spare me the hyperbole.

Yeah that kid was a regular American abroad. Just building orphanages and the like. Sorry, but if you are hanging out with Al Qaeda in Yemen I think it's safe to say you have renounced your US citizenship.

Regardless of the company the young Mr. al-Awlaki (or his father for that matter) may have kept, should he not have been indicted by a Grand Jury rather than a Hellfire missle? And what kind of precedent is set here?

That said, how can Romney possibly compete with this?
