Board length measuring.
« on: May 20, 2013, 06:43:39 AM »
Noticed in work today whilst updating our website with some new boards that came in, that different companies measure there boards length differently. Santa Cruz Shurikan board listed by them as 31.6", which is measured from tip to tip across the top of the board, with the tape tight and an Anti Hero Hewitt which is listed as 33.3" which is measured on the graphic side.

Not sure what the best/right way to measure the length is. Whenever I'm buying a new board I just stand it up against my old one and try and get as close as poss.

Any hints?

Not sure the exact process in measuring length, but I hate when I get a deck setup and realize its too short.

Amen. I like skating wider boards, but it's hard to find a board over 8.25 that keeps the proportions right. The kicks need a bit more length+tapering in my view if a board is way wide. Had an 8.5 Palace board that felt like this:
