this is a real sign of the struggle the skate industry is in............

i doubt this black box distro deal would've happened 5 years ago when every brand they have was doing really well, i think this is a move to keep the doors open & pro's & workers employed.

distro'ing insight hasn't affected black box, i don't see why new balance should.

New Balance can just fuck right off and it hurts a little that black box is backing them through this abortion of a business move.

Puleo and Popps should be the first two in line for that paycheck!
[close]

The funny thing is, I heard about the NB skate line about three weeks ago from a rep who stumbled upon samples at the Black Box warehouse. He also told me that he heard talk of Puleo being the first pro. Sounds crazy, I know. But the first part of NB skate line through Black Box sounded completely unbelievable too, and here we are with a press release.

"We combine the East Coast heritage and supreme workmanship of New Balance with the West Coast lifestyle and culture of Skateboarding, says Michael Akira West, President & CEO at Westlife Distribution.

Puleo rocks Saucony's. Just saying

I can't see their logo working well with a skate shoe, but I guess it hasn't stopped Etnies yet so...

this is such bullshit, just what we need is another big corporation to run out the other small companys that make product that's specifically made for skateboarding.

One thing I do really like about this is that New Balances are traditionally American made. If they stick w/ that for this program I believe they'd be the only made in USA skate shoes on the market.
[close]
said this on here before, but all the hipsters and yuppies that support New Balance cuz they are made in America are regular, they only make about 15%-20% of their shoes in the US, and those are the ones that are sold mostly at core running shoe stores, not at Footlocker or any other mall. Pick a pair up look at the tongue Made in China or Made in Vietnam.

The bottom of the press release says 25 percent. But I'm sure you will think that a quarter of a fairly large production is insignificant and your smugness will continue.

Yeah, they have 5 plants in the US and another in the UK.  Pretty rad to see stuff still getting made here, even if it is only 25% of their production.

In another 5-10 years every skate product will be made by a big corporation and skateboarders will no longer have any control over skateboarding. Good times ahead. Keep buying Nike!

As I stare at the giant converse ad on my screen, I'm going to say I'm not surprised. Any athletic shoe companies left to throw their hat in the mix? Asics? Reebok going to try again?

Volcom is starting a shoe program as well but I'm not sure if they're going to be marketed towards skateboarding. They're owned by Puma so they have the resources to put out a good product, no doubt it will be ruined by that damned logo they can't omit from a single design.

There ain't no shit on T.V. tonight

It's only fair. Skate companies have been getting into the lifestyle shoe market for the past 5-6 years now.

The Emerica Hopi anyone? You know it's the perfect bong shoe.

Like Daewon said: if skateboarding is a ten story building, Rodney is on eleventh floor.

More of my money will be given to non skater owned brands, and I am happy to do it.  If skater owned brands want my money, stop making corny garbage.
