Why?

Could we also have an isolated Vans thread?

Nike releases more colors and models than anyone else.

It's pretty much a consensus with everyone else that visits that thread, that Nike releases so much colors and models that it's own thread would make sense.

Vans, Lakai, etc... drop in seasons not monthly

I read four complaints on the other thread about having a seperate Nike thread. This is dumb.

since it'll most likely never make it to the next page, it'll be taking up a space that could otherwise be occupied by a more urgent thread where some poor kid thinks something is wrong with his trucks

went to Ross outlet store and got 4 pair of grey janoski for 20 bucks each. (talk them down because i said i would buy them all)
just wondering the chain of events that Ross goes threw to get those.
do they buy defects direct from Nike or do they buy close out lots?
i know that most footwear companies have a grading scale for shoes.
my homie worked at Blackbox and would buy defected Fallens that would have a weird stitch or bad lace hole for like 9 bucks.
i havent found anything wrong with the Janoski i got. oh, and no boxes or extra laces >:(

Having dealt with ROSS for years, they (and TJ Maxx and Marshals) buy shoes and apparel in a couple of different ways.

1. All of the major companies (Vans=VF, Element/PlanB=Billabong) all make products specifically for the discount or close-out retailers. Usually the apparel is logo t's on cheap/available blank tee's. The shoes are usually old styles, built using cheaper materials.
2. All of the publicly traded skate companies have guys who sell only to the discount stores. They are looking to move "hash" inventory and old past season inventory that has been marked down multiple times. These companies have to clean out their warehouses and no one is going to pay full price for a shoe with size 5,6, 13 and 14 of a single style left over.
3. The discount stores also buy from "jobbers". These are the guys that buy the inventory of stores (both independent and big box) that cant be sold at retail, and has undergone multiple mark downs. They buy from the big athletic retailers/department stores and Independent stores and then offer the goods to the discount re-sellers. Usually these goods are sold by the truck/container load by the pound. That's why Ross, TJ's and Marshalls all sell a hodge-podge of goods. Kitchenware, rugs and skateshoes....

The other thing to remember is that all of the companies that are publicly traded will usually (if not always) have to make up some ground on a quarterly goal 4 times a year. These discount stores are usually more than happy to take first quality, full size runs of newer goods to help make up the shortfall.
A savvy consumer can easily find out what fiscal calendar your favorite company is on, take that date and work back to calculate their quarters and then hit the discount and outlet stores usually a week after the quarter ends and score the come up.
