who has some links for a good basic turntable I can get that'll get the job done??

If you're looking for a cheaper, but still quality player, check out record players from Crosley.
They've been around for decades upon decades and they have both new and more "classic" style set ups.
They actually have a really warm sound. And the ones with built in speakers sound a lot better than people will lead you to believe.

Weekend pick-ups!!!

Pink Floyd - Ummagumma
The studio record is really nice and out there, probably the most experimental record that they made. The live record is thrilling, oozing with psychedelic energy. A great double LP.

Grateful Dead - Skeletons from the Closet (best of)
Great sound and their 1st compilation record

The Doors - Weird Scenes Inside the Gold Mine
A fantastic double LP featuring some of their best work, without necessarily feeling like a "best of" album

Iron Butterfly - Live
In-A-Gadda-Da-Vidda takes up an entire side. There's not much more to say about this masterpiece.

And then I also picked up a couple records from an antique store
-Simon and Garfunkel's Greatest Hits
and
-A German record from Mozart

Hell yeah, this was my introduction to them around three years ago.

yeahhh thats pretty fucking killer^^^

I've got a pretty extensive collection, but I'm stoked that I found Led Zeppelin's Coda, thus completing their entire discography on vinyl. The same day I found Coda I also stumbled upon Emergency at the Everyday by The Mall, it's a 12" that plays at 45 rpm which I had never seen/experienced before, and Sleep Talk by Shannon and The Clams

This thread is beyond rad. I am an avid collector of vinyl and cassettes. In my area, we have the best record store around, Doubledecker records. The owner seriously gets the craziest stuff in, its completely mind blowing. Go in there on any given day and you can find an original "In My Eyes" by Minor Threat or the first pressing of Teen Idles self titled on Dischord. And of course he gets in plenty of The Velvet Underground, Joy Division, Wipers, Flipper, DEVO, Echo and the Bunnymen, Wire, and newer stuff like Grass Widow, Thee Oh Sees, Pissed Jeans, etc. I spend two to three days of my week there, hanging out. Recent purchases include:
Joy Division "Closer (original pressing, promotional copy)
DEVO "New Traditionalists (Original Pressing)
Green and Wood Self titled (Ethan Fowler's band)
The Monochrome Set "Strange Boutique (Reissue)
Void 7 inch (original pressing)
The Dream Syndicate "Days of Wine and Roses" (Original pressing)

i haven't bought a cd in years. i pretty much buy strictly vinyl records. here are some of my favorites:

...and you will know us by the trail of dead-madonna
batman ost by prince
black flag-damaged
bauhaus-collection
the beatles-rubber soul(have inherited every beatles lp except revolver from my older brother)
the blues brothers-briefcase full of blues
crime-san francisco's still doomed
digital underground-sex packets
dinosaur jr-you're living all over me
five deez-koolmotor
fugazi-in on the killtaker
funkdoobiest-brotha's doobie
gang starr-hard to earn
government warning-no moderation
gun club-death party
hot snakes-suicide invoice
jawbreaker-24 revenge therapy
the jesus and mary chain-psycho candy
joy division-unknown pleasures
middle class-homeland
motown-the big wheels of motown compilation
moss icon-discography
nas-illmatic
rick james-street songs
sade-diamond life
stevie wonder-songs in the key of life
steely dan-gaucho
the smiths-strange ways here we come
war-(some kind of compilation, unfortunately the only vinyl record i have from war)
yaphet kotto-the killer was in the government blankets

i also got a few 12inch singles, some split records(leatherface/hot water music, los crudos/spitboy, angel hair/bare minimum, milemarker/blood brothers to name a few) and i also buy the occasional 7inch, mostly at shows.

it's weird now that i only buy vinyl my collection doesn't represent my musical taste that correctly. i also have a big cd collection but no cd player anymore, i just keep them and sometimes i might upload on on my pc, but they don't really get used which is kind of a shame because i have some gems in there.

Recent finds:

Dead Meadow - Shivering King and Others
Dead Meadow - Three Kings
Deerhunter - Rainwater Casette Exchange
Built to Spill - Keep it like a Secret
Atlas Sound - Logos
Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) - Pendulum
The Doors - 13
The Doors - Morrison Hotel
Pink Floyd - Masters of Rock
Syd Barrett - Opel
Lionel Ritchie - Can't Slow Down

Your shop sounds so great, nice variety. I'm also psyched that you're also stating whether it's an original or repress. Most people that I know don't seem to care either way.
My shop only has vinyl from the 60s, 70s, and 80s - which is great and all because I love 60s/70s rock, but I have to go elsewhere to purchase new releases...

Keep the great posts coming though. As always, it's great to see all of the interest in vinyl. And it's always great to see new pick ups from everyone.

haven't dipped into this section in a while, tight to see a thread like this, couple pics of some of the collection so far

taking a trip for a hefty dig on friday so i'll try and post up some finds when i get back

I want MORE CTI records!!

good thing they are cheap and plentiful!!! some collectors might wince at CTI shit but there is plenty of quality electric jazzfunk groove stuff (and beyond) to get into, especially for someone who is new to buying that type of music, love the interlude track on that album you posted, herbie on the fender rhodes is as good as it gets in my book (well maybe just a chapter of my book), actually just pulled out all my herbie albums the other day (got about 10 or so), speak like a child, fat albert rotunda, mwandishi, of course head hunters, all of that shit (1965-1975) is fucking excellent, i highly recommend all of it

yup Herbie is a master, no doubt!
Saw him live two years ago and he still kicks ass.

unfortunately (for me) CTI is stuff is not that cheap and plentiful over here in Europe.... I dont know where you live but american record stores are pretty much unbeatable for soul/jazz/funk, all american styles basically. I nearly lost my mind in NY record stores.....so much stuff compared to what I'm used to in Europe!!

some solid finds from friday, mostly shops with a few thrift/consignment digs as well

bunch of soul/funk 45s, including a grip of JB on king, and the highlight for me, chuck jackson's 'and that's saying a lot'

and a nice stack of reggae/dub 45s which is something i usually don't get to come across, really enjoying these

i was listening through the love unlimited soundtrack earlier and this one cut stuck out as really familiar, i was racking my brain as to why, assuming it was a sampled somewhere, but it turns out i was familiar with it from danny montoya's part in one step beyond, hadn't seen it in a long time so it was a real treat to watch it again, made me remember when i would first watch it how i would always get temporarily confused about his stance because he did so many fakie and nollie crooks that i would get it mixed up and would have to rewind it to rewatch tricks and get my head straight, love that shit
