Shanghai, China info?

I'm going to try to go to Shanghai in May an I'm wonderin if anyone has any info on spots/cheap hotels/cost of food etc.  Any other info is a big plus as well. Also, I live in Tokyo, so if anyone is in nee of info feel free to holllla.

Been lurking the forum for a couple of years and finally decided to make an account.

So, i've been travelling in Asia for 3 months now, and after being injured for nearly 7 months I bought a board in Kuala Lumpur.
In a couple of weeks I'm going to Shanghai, how was your stay there? Got any good/cheap places to sleep, tips, spots, ...
As I really don't know what to expect from China.
