I'm down. People bitch about how he and Dawkins and the like don't do anything to change anyone's minds, and just preach to the (atheist) choir...and I'm ok with that. I spent enough of my life with religion being crammed down my throat, I'm cool with some dickish atheism. I know it doesn't do any good, but it's gratifying.

Except when it comes to Kissinger. He was pretty dead on about that asshole. Though he was sort of self congratulatory for figuring out the obvious.

You and the D00D have turned this thread into a horrible head-on-collision between a short bus full of regular kids and a van full of paraplegics.

Oh shit, really? Bummer. I never heard any of that, I'm just familiar with his anti-religion books. Any links?

Yeah, I forgot about that part of his ideology (admittedly because I disagreed with it so much), although I understand its origins in his distaste for religion--especially oppression because of religion.  I still enjoy his iconolasm and agree with most of his critiques of religion, morality, public figures, etc.

Thanks man. That's such a bummer...he turned into a total asshole. Well, I guess he always was one; he turned into a total asshole I strongly disagree with politically. Sigh.

Thanks for passing that link along, though. I had no idea.

Before I even saw the responses in this thread I was going to say I have a love/hate sort of feeling about Hitchens. I love how awesomely obnoxious he is, and totally agree with his position on religion, but he was dead wrong about Iraq and in U.S. foreign policy in the middle east in general. Despite his awful views on this, I loved when he was on Bill Maher and was arguing in favor of Iraq and got booed and turned to the audience, flipped them all off with and said "fuuuuuuuuck youuuuuuuuuu"
Hitchens flips off Maher's morons

I didn't agree with his points, but found his reaction priceless.
Are you a kook? If you would say this, the answer is “YES”

His views on the war on terror are informed by his views on religion though. Can the two really be separated so easily?
