Sheep Shoes - Life of Leisure appreesh
« on: December 28, 2008, 04:52:05 PM »
The "how long have you been skating?" thread in toy banter got me thinking about videos from when I started skating. This video came out the year I got into riding the ol stunt wood, and should no doubt be labeled a classic. Just look at the line up. Tricks are creative, the spots are dope, the soundtrack is good. Just an overall stylish feelgood video. Some highlights are listed.

Frank Hirata - f/s 180 to fakie smith in a line. Before people hated him or something. Do people hate him? I thought they did for a while maybe.
Rick McCrank - this was 4 years before "The End" came out. Ripped back then, still does.
Matt Field - Back in his hippie days. Line through the woods. Power nollies
Charlie Wilkins - Can't tell if that last rail is square or round. Either way, that's a pretty long 5050 for back then.
Brian Anderson - 5 years before he won SOTY. Slappys in lines, and lines at hubba.
Mike Manzoori - Before he was "that filmer guy". The indy at 14:26 is just so fucking sick.
Sergei Trudnowski - Hill bombs a set of stairs. Classic SF action.
Ed Tempelton - It's Ed Tempelton.

Here's the link. Enjoy and appreesh

Best part in this is no doubt Trudnowski.  One of the most coveted stoner videos, alongside Timecode and Memory Screen.  Love it love it.

Sheep died the year after I started skating.  I loved those shoes.

Brian Anderson's runs at hubba hideout were the best.

I'm in awe. Got VHS copy of this vid when I started skating and watched it like 200 times. Watching it after these years it still gets me hyped as fuck. Don't remember how the shoes skated though. Remember having one pair of blacks with synthetic leather or something.

I LOVED this video.  Used to watch this and FTC's Penal Code all the time to get hyped to go skate.  Charlie Wilkins and Frank Hirata parts were awesome... Manzoori was totally so creative... and the Gabor Szabo tune in BA's part just made me want to cruise out on my own solo trips skating around town.  Fuckin Hungarian Jazz yo... so sick!

One of my all time favorite videos.  Good mix of skating and creative video.  Physics wheels vid was good too.

Agreed. This and the Physics wheels video are two of the most underappreciated videos ever. While they get some love on slap (less so the Physics video), they were not widely distributed at all.

I still have the soundtrack CD somewhere, but lost the vhs ages ago.

Mike Manzoori has a rad style.

I was looking for the Frank Hirata clip of the 180 fakie smith today and pulled up this old thread. Apparently the old link doesn't work anymore.

Found it re-uploaded on YouTube. If you haven't watched it, you should.

I still have these tapes. Had two VCRs at the time and made copies of my friends videos. That’s how I have the Sheep video which also has 4 other videos on it but the Physics video I won in a raffle at a CASL contest. Those CASL raffles were hit or miss but I came up that day.

Matt Rodriguez skating in the credits, Hiratas part. I think McCrank filmed that the same time as Revolution. Still sing Serge’s song to this day for no reason… my wife and kid think I’m nuts. BA and his Hubba lines. Templeton going up the rail. Also, he was the first guy to skate that rail where he comes out the front door. Anyone else who’s hit that thing since then has had to really carve into it to get onto it.

Love this video.

Such a rad piece of skateboarding history. Coming out of the BPSW era, the mid 90s were pretty amazing, right before things got really stale again...

Such a great video. Frank got a lot of shit for working for a company that made terrible skateparks. Loved the Templeton pro model shoe, had 3 pairs
