Activity Tracker for gauging skateboarding activity
« on: July 07, 2013, 05:43:17 AM »
First of a list of available trackers (so far I didn't have the time to choose "the best one"):

Now the idea: no one around me ever considered skateboarding a demanding physical activity (compared to other organized sports), but I disagree. My conviction was only strengthened after I started running with my GF - skateboarding is a gruelling workout. I guess non-skaters are fooled by how much fun we are having while doing it ...

These activity trackers seem an appropriate tool for measuring the effort put in every push, trick etc. and can be used to gauge other sports activities. I believe they could be used to show the outside world just how good of an exercise it really is.

Does anyone here already use one?

Everyone in my family has one, including my dog. We're all connected to an account on the family computer where we keep track of our diet and exercise. We're one fit family!
Who are you to judge what kinds of cocks he wants to suck?

I use that MyFitnessPal app for iPhones to keep track of my calories and stuff.  It gives an ok idea of calories burned an 60 minutes of skating amounts to about 380 calories--which is about 43 minutes at a moderate pace on an exercise bike.  You can change that to account for intensity, but skating is definitely a good workout.

I went running with some friends a few days ago. They thought skateboarding is a joke. Next day everyone had sore legs except me.

Nike+ sensor seems like a good fit: it measures your leaps for basketball - maybe you could measure your pop (or the lack of there of) through time

Skateboarding is more of an anaerobic activity rather then aerobic. It has lots of short busrts of muscle activity rather then long durations of sustained activity. Anaerobic activities have been shown to spike peoples metabolisms more efffectively then aerobics, that's why so many skateboarders are skinny dudes despite the number of them that eat shitty food/candy etc.
