Reinventing the skateboard wheel
« on: June 13, 2013, 03:18:18 PM »
I doubt these slide for shit, but I'd like to try them and see how much farther they roll on a push: http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2013/06/this-guy-reinvented-the-wheel-by-turning-it-into-a-cube/276705/

Even if they make a 100 D street wheel, unfortunately the shape screams of a tricked out longboard, scooter, etc. gimmick.

When I read the title I thought "What asshole is trying to 'reinvent' skateboarding this time?"

they seem like they would chunk if you tried to gap something big and wear faster in general.  i could see longboarders adopting them, but not skateboarders.

From one perspective, I think the idea is pretty cool

Too bad the wheels look like piles of shit.
Also doesn't look practical for street skating

You wouldn't be able to lock into a grind on a ledge either without a square-ish edge.

I didn't trust it once he let it out that he doesn't understand what a cube is.

Teenage runaway put out square wheels years ago and they looked way better than these.

I don't know, they are kind of neat and the theory behind them sounds alright. honestly I wouldn't mind trying taking them for a quick roll on my cruiser just to see how they work. but they will never sell. A few longboarders maybe but for street skating they are not practical at all.

Whatever. I stopped caring about wheel technology a long time ago. Good luck. I hope this guy is the next Mark Zuckerberg, so I can still not care.
