VANS Anthony Van Engelen shoe history help...
« on: August 19, 2013, 06:54:19 AM »
I know his first shoe was the AV Era...

then the Sk8 low, which is my favorite skate shoe maybe ever...

the AV3, which was pretty horrible and super stiff

then I remember the AV6

and now the Native...

what were his 4th and 5th pro models?

Hell, I used to work at Vans and I can't even recall...and google isn't helping me either.
someone enlighten me!

Thanks guys! so AVE has either the best vans shoes or the worst ones it seems.

They look weird in that picture, but no way were the AV3s horrible or stiff.  I loved that shoe.  You just had to pull the foam out of the tongue.  Probably one of my favorite soles of all time.  I distinctly remember it not being advertised as vulcanized.  It was a super pliable cupsole I think.

Wish I picked up some AV6's while they were out, missed the boat on that one. Will definately be trying out the Gilbert Crockett shoe when that's out, looks like the nearest thing aesthetically, and it's wafflecup.

The DC Avenue's are one of my all time favourite shoes I've skated.

That Avenge has the rear tread like newer Emericas. In the heel for walk wear durability. Are they the first to do so? What a weird shoe. Looks like the style that was popular in 2001-2005 amongst non skaters. Before "every 15-22 year old non skater in the world seemed to buy black/white classics.

Agreed...except they were really hot....with the sock liner....the heel lock thing made no sense to me either...

Only shoe I can remember paying full retail.....

Heel lock on eS Ecosse a joke too.  Most disappointing eS I ever bought. But do love eSoleTech. Just found some Hsu2 mids fusion for $29. Hope they aren't the defective ones. So far they work great.

I'm skating the AVE 6s right now.  They're not bad but definitely nothing amazing.

Sk8-lows are soooo great. I wish that they would have kept them in the line opposed to the damn AV Natives.

They seem like the same sneaker - what's the difference?

I don't like the natives either especially with the ortholite insoles. The sk8 lows had a really nice insole though and it looked better in general

The Sk8-lows (like Eric said) had a better insole. Overall, they were just more supportive. And too, the construction doesn't feel quite the same between the two models.
