I've said it in other threads, but EA does not own the control system that was used in the skate. games. The guy who developed that system licensed it to EA. He still owns it and could license it/sell it to other developers if he so desired. I know a bunch of the guys who made those games and this is truth.

Skate 4 isn't happening. Not yet anyway.

Scott Blackwood right?

He's the reason if I remember correctly why the first Skate had no DLC. He didn't believe in it. He felt like everything should be available when you buy the game at retail. Which I agree with but EA didn't like that of course. A shame he left before or after Skate 2. Can't remember exactly when.

After 2. With 1 they had a lot to prove, then EA gave them more money/freedom with 2, but by 3 EA had taken over the studio and a lot of people left/were forced out. They brought in all these other people, most of which had no idea about anything skateboarding related, and 3 underperformed by EA standards so everything was shuttered.

I think the DLC stuff was a little bit of what you said and a little bit of there not being enough money to do it at the time.

Seriously makes me wish Scott and Jay Balmer would start a kickstarter for a new skate game. They know what it needs in my opinion. As said by Jay in the video below. Too be honest a Skate port to PC with mod support could make the game stay alive on forever since you can use a controller on PC and with steams mod support. Just wish it was a possibility.

Scott Blackwood owns the patent or whatever on it, he just licensed it to EA and could do the same to another developer. It's still his.

Remember how well Tony Hawk did with the one that required you have the board controller? I doubt his next offering will be what actual skateboarders want it to be.

the longboard thing is probably smart now that I think about it

80% of the kids around here are riding long boards. it will probably help with sales

I can live with them being in-game if it means another skate

Problem with this is they would just rush it and make it shitty. It's not like when they originally wanted to make them and took time and effort to develop them.

All I know is that a New tony hawk game has been confirmed by either tony or neversoft for a new next gen title in 2015. I can only hope they try to revamp the series and go for a more realistic approach. Skate pretty much snatched the crown for skateboarding games commercially & culturally while THPS sales dropped dramactially so I'd imagine if they're smart they'd try to fill that void on the next consoles. They've already been remastering the old games so there's no "need" for them to stick to their roots and go the arcade route with the newer games.

it's interesting, but all these 3rd party mod skate games are gonna be complete shit who are we kidding. might be worth about 5 minutes of your time for the novelty of it

won't be satisfied until there's another skate, even if the new Tony Hawk tries to make it realistic it'll still be rediculous they would need to stick to the same combo getting and high point scoring formula that has made the series successful and popular with non skaters

the only reason I still have my xbox 360 hooked up to my TV is for skate3
