The age of the stacked team.
« on: November 05, 2013, 02:56:24 PM »
Was thinking about this earlier. Look at how many teams are stacked up in comparison to prior skateboarding ( ala 93-2005 ) team wise. What makes it curious is a question. Does skateboarding really have that much money in it now that is sustainable or in excess?

I'm not against the hook up. The skateboarding population has boomed and there is so much shit out there that I can't keep up, which stokes me out that folks are out there goin' strong, but it's so strange how everyone deserves a hook up just because you like them (talking at the personal point where you think a dude is good enough, etc) WHERE ARE THE SNOW FLAKES IN SKATEBOARDING? jokes aside. We have a snow storm apparently.

I guess I'm just getting at is teams are crazy big now vs how they use to be. I don't see it as a bad thing either, but that underlying can "can they really support this" - aspect comes to mind. Personally I find there is a big amount of excess out, but on the equal crazy shit being done and put out. Any thoughts on this?

You referenced 93? Did you ever see an old World video?

I tried to read your post but your avatar hypnotized me and rendered me even more thoughtless than before.

Not every team is stacked. Take blueprint 2.0 for instance .

skateboarding is more popular than ever so the more overall skaters equals more good ones. no need to sponsor halfass people anymore but i've got a dream. one day if skaters unionize and then they go on strike, they'll need scabs capable of crossing picket lines and performing subpar maneuvers for the viewing public. oh yeah, i got a dream!

Doesn't Independent trucks and Nike SB sponsor over half of all pros?

DC shoes around the Euro Super tour era, Menikmati era Es. Both pretty stacked teams.

Actually, If I had to go stacked team of all time I'd say H-Street around 90-91. Prob had around 50 kids on that team.

Dude, it's so easy for companies to do this nowadays. Take a company like Nike SB for example. They have dudes like Theo, Shane, P-Rod and they even have Koston, one of the dudes who've only gotten better with time and is considered one of the greatest. Nike is probably an exception, but when you have as much money as SB had when they started up, it's not really too hard to persuade dudes to join up with an ass-ton of money.

Ofcourse companies can't support it. Look at the countless skate brands that bankrupt themselves every year.

Birdhouse was killing it in 1998.

edit: actually Birdhouse was stacked from the beginning. Shit got weird after Heath, Berra, and Reynolds left though.

just look at what happened to the lakers last season if you wanna talk about stacked teams. its all about those o.g. crews of homies that are out there doing it together.. (antihero, golden state, bakerboys)

Gotta manscape ... it's mandatory.

What about Flip at the time of Sorry and Really Sorry , they had 3 guys who won skater of the year prior too 2004 (Apples, Rowley and Arto) then had Penny, Salabanzi, PJ Ladd and Boulala. I can't think of a current team except maybe Girl that is more stacked than that roster.

Matt Hensley on his way to the store. Freaks that girl out. Perfect use of a power slide.

In this day and age it's only truly "stacked" if there's a sister company

Everyone has such big teams and so many roster changes its hard to get a proper feel for a company.

I dont know.
There have been countless threads about teams , budgets and companies being cut.
Even Larry Perkins got the boot and is now trying to come up again.

Yeah 'cause the Bones Brigade was pretty weak in the 80's, and H-Street were just a pack of wanna be's.

I preferred Creager on the time, but this is pretty much my all-time favorite squad. If we're talking shoe teams being stacked, Nike is pretty fucking stacked.

As far as skateboard companies, REAL is stacked as fuck: RAMONDETTA BUSENITZ BROCK HUFNAGEL SCHAAF FERGUSON JT AULTZ TORRES DOMPIERRE HARDY DONNELLY PERELSON TORGERSON WAIR WALKER BROCKEL CAVEDONI ASSELIN MIDLER

If we're talking stacks on deck, this dude
