That was real clean. In not hating on parks either. I'm just sort of wired the opposite of you: I like to try as few tricks as possible in an hour, so I feel like a waste of space in them  ;) workin on it....

I'm 33 and I'm terrible. I've seen myself on video. I'm clumsy and awkward. Now I just don't watch myself.
[close]

I'm still filming pretty regularly but the last year or so, when I watch my footage I'm really started to see a lot of what can only be called "old man style." I'm kinda looking at it as a challenge though. Getting a clip I'm psyched on has always been hard for me, but I can still do it enough to make it fun to try. My aging body is increasingly a significant obstacle for me, but isn't that what skateboarding is about - getting creative with obstacles?

Honestly, my favorite skate vids these days are footage of older pros. I wish it wasn't so common to stop filming once your skating "falls off" a bit. The way people skate in their older years is fascinating to me. Nothing gets me more psyched than seeing footage of Ray Barbee or Ron Allen or even Tony Hawk -  any of the post 40 crowd who are still doing it.

I know what you mean about "old man style". Our bodies continue to change all our lives. We 30-somethings are only just growing into adult bodies. People in their 20s are adults, but there's still a youthfulness because muscle deterioration hasn't yet begun. I took a human development class last semester and learned quite a bit.

I'm clumsy and awkward because I spent too man years not skating. Just like a martial artist or dancer who doesn't practice constantly or stick with it their entire life won't perform as well as someone who did it consistently, like a Shaolin monk or something.

Just had my first kid. Pretty psyched it's a boy. No sleep and abundant time with in laws sucks but everything else is rad. Somehow have had 2 brief street sessions: 1 terrible and 1 very good. I look back and thank the lord I sneaked all of those random sessions and skated even when I didn't feel like it over the last year.

people talkin bout 'old man style' thats sick!!!  all skate styles are rad .  Tip from an old guy to young cats; dont jump down shit, and dont skate 5 hours a day either thats bad.  I heard cycleling will build knee muscles that will prevent injury. (Hey if ur in your late 30s and like skating its a good time to consider physical training (calestetics, bicycling, cross training in gen) might steer you away from having a "survival stance" into ur 40s lol.

So rad. My boy is 3 (born on my birthday no less) and it keeps getting better and better.  I haven't pushed skating (or anything) on him but he is obsessed with it. Just cause it's everywhere and part of my day.

He doesn't wanna watch cartoons, he just wants to watch skate vids which is a bonus.  Meet the Lurkers is his favourite DVD. I posted him watching it on IG and tagged the owners of Lurkville and they stoked the fuck out.  Sent me/him a board.

Welcome to fatherhood mate!!!

I had to tighten up his wheels so he doesn't fly down the hill.  He hasn't really mastered the art of stopping yet.

The older I get (37) the more I get bummed on being kicked out of a spot. Even if they're nice about it, just just ruins my vibe. Our park is amazing, but it's a 24/7 shit show.

It's been backyard minis and vert ramps so far this summer.

Does it count as being old if I've sprained both knees about 10 times in the last 5 years? Now I can't creep up stairs, my cartilage in my right knee grinds and I have to pop my left knee consistently throughout the day... oh yeah, I'm 24... saying hello to the gifts that skating has given me.

i'm not extremely old 29. started skating when I was like 11ish. I was a true skate rat for years, then music at first, and a few bad injuries that I was an idiot with healing slowed me down, But i still get other there when i can, hit the park early for my old man session, and hit solo spot missions. Being down in Brooklyn is fun, because there are a ton of rippers, but also a bunch of people in my same boat.

I've got about 10 clips in this video that just came out.
Right around the 11 minute mark.
After Markovich.
Never thought I would say that after watching his parts 20 plus years ago in A1 Meats video and such.
There are a bunch of other old dudes in here too. Including my main old dude partner in crime: TBone.
He has the last part.

After 30 years on board; I can still eat shit. That is one trick I haven't lost. Enders baby!
Although I am a firm believer that if you are not taking some good slams on a regular basis, you probably aren't trying hard enough.
This could also be viewed as an entry in the never ending Street vs Park debate.
Shows just a few of the things you are missing out on if you only skateboard inside cages: cops, bums, super citizens, dogs trying to kick you out, metallic painted human beings, tourists from Saudi Arabia falling in love with skateboarding on sight.

Sat on my leg kind of weird, about 6 weeks back, seems like it's not really recovering all that well.  Haven't skated and have been doing elliptical as light rehab, along with squats.  I've had acl reconstructions on each knee, and the knee in question feels pretty solid.  However, I think I may have fucked the miniscus a little bit.  Have aching pain that comes and goes and the knee is perma swollen.  Pretty depressing and makes me wonder if my days are becoming numbered, as I'm turning 42 this December.

Take things a day at a time and do what you're doing, I skate with pain most days and just deal with it.
At least you can enjoy it on some level even if for a shorter duration.
Take what you can get.

I messed up my wrist and my ribs almost 3 weeks ago. I'm now at the point where I probably could start skating again and I've been thinking about it constantly but I'm afraid that with one slam my shit is just going to explode and be way worse than it was to begin with.

Choices...
