Well, you guys got me psyched to try and film something!

Filmed this bit by bit over the summer and up through last Friday. Was still a spry 38 in some of the earlier clips. Never mind the weak ass ollie at the start...

Fuck yeah dude, that's rad!
Where is this park that you seem to have all to yourself? Pretty fun looking.
Also I laughed pretty hard at "not really a sweeper if it takes this long"!
Dude you haven't even hit 40 you still spry in my eyes, keep shredding homie!

Thanks guys!

That park is in Philly. Only 3 years old. It can get crowded if more than 6 people are there but oftentimes I've gotten it to myself. It's really smooth, which I enjoy A LOT at this point. The tightish transitions and pool coping scare off some of the street kids and I suppose the current crop of FDR guys just prefer FDR.

I actually used that sweeper joke in an older video. I then got better at sweepers, then stopped doing them, and am now back to being terrible - so it seemed appropriate to call myself out again.

Not really DIY but it was built on the cheap with city money left over from the Philadelphia Paine's Park build. A general contractor did the flats after Jesse Clayton, T.Z., and a few others built all the trannies and banks. Both those guys have done work on various DIY type stuff (T.Z. did a lot at FDR back in the day) and they've also gone legit and built a few parks in the area outright.

It's just a video of the same trick done three times B-sides style completely uncut.  I fought this for about an hour before.  I start landing them at 1:47.  I'm trying to stack up a few clips for a video edit for when I hit 42 in July and finally learn the meaning of life according to the Hitchhiker's Guide.

At the risk of being off topic, have any other old dudes been thrown seeing a familiar name on an unfamiliar face?
When I first read about Tom Knox on Isle I had a little giggle to myself, thinking of the old SC pro. Cos for such a long time there was only one Tom Knox, and when anyone referred to Tom Knox you knew who they meant.
But tonight I saw a young dude called Isaiah Thomas playing for the Celtics. So now I wonder if this one of those symptoms of getting old - that new people come up and inhabit the names you held dear.
Or maybe it's just a symptom of too much wine midweek

I had a little trouble with Matt Willigan, Russ Milligan. By the way I'm Bill, 41 years old, and skating since 88. My Instagram name is @clockradiospeaker fellas. I love skateboarding.

Cool man, thanks... It was the first time I had ever really tried it. I've always been in to Christmas trees so it was sort of a natural progression from a straight kickflip.

I thought the same about the Isle Tom Knox for awhile.  The Santa Cruz one was/is awesome, but the new one's not too bad.

I'm 30 is that old enough? I just started skating again. I didnt touch a board for like 7+ years and I just started up again a few weeks ago. I dont really have time to ever do it though because I work nights. Some of it came back to me but I'm pretty fucking bad now. I was getting my ass kicked ollieing some baby 4 stair the other night lol. Ive been recording some of it and throwing it up on youtube for shits n giggles to.

Thanks guys!

I just spent one and a half hours getting my warm up run down in my local bowl, which comprises of a handful of basic transition tricks that I have had on lock for 15 years...
And then couldn't repeat it!
Sorry for pointlessness of post, but I needed to vent my angst

Hi!

I've a question for some of you older guys.
Why have you stopped pushing yourself?
For me skateboarding has always been about progression and pushing oneself.(apart from being the funniest thing one can do)
Trying to learn new things or take the things you've learned to different places.
I see alot of people posting their slappy footy here, and yes slappies are fun, but don't you want to take it further.
If you learn a combo on a slappycurb, why don't you try it on a flatbar or a small rail?
I like to play around on small stuff too but how can it be everything when skateboarding can give you so much more.
Not trying to diss, just trying to understand.
I'd rather watch Bill Danforth push...

Explain why you think these guys aren't pushing themselves? Every other post is about someone landing a new trick or trying to get something back when they haven't skated in a long time.
Just because someone posts a vid of a slappy doesn't mean they aren't skating a flat rail.
Progression doesn't mean bigger. And progression is personal, not to be judged by your standards.
There was an interview with Chris Miller a few years back where he talked about frontside ollies and how he now can control every aspect of his ollies on vert. He said something to the effect that now he can just " feel " every Ollie he does and how it makes him a much better skater than he ever was before. So maybe refinement is progression too.

The thing I think you missed in my post was "some older guys".
I'm not judging, just trying to understand.

On the subject of Chris Miller, he is the total opposite of the tired skaters my question was aimed for.

In that case I owe you a beer. I think I know what you mean. There is a group of older guys at the park that basically stand around, talk and occasionally kick turn and haven't tried anything at all for years. I don't get that either. It seems really boring. But I guess they are having fun.

Does it make my question more valid if I'm a good skater?
If I wanted to post footy here I would've done it already.
Or was my post just a set up to get someone to ask for that?

I try to push myself when I skate. I find it hard to understand people that don't.
Whether I'm good or not is irrelevant.

I'm pushing 36. I have no clue what you're talking about. I've never done this trick ever, let alone on a curb. I smithed it in 2012. It's 2016, I like to think I'm progressing. For me skateboarding has always been about fun.
Switch 180 50/50 revert LA High

First of all, that was sick!
But I think you kind of proove my point here.
Skateboarding is first and most about having fun.
Still one want to try new things, tricks one haven't done before etc.
What made you try that?
To try new or harder things, to progress, has for me always been a big part of it.
Some older skaters seems to give up on that part.
My question is aimed at them, obviously not at you.
I'd rather watch Bill Danforth push...
