i been claiming it for the last 5 yrs but i actually turned 40 today. blessed w/ a 35 degree day so i skated my strip mall where i'm self proclaimed plaza boss. felt amazing after being cooped up most of the last 3 months. i can still 360 flip they just take a bunch of tries. halfcab flip and switch flip first try. alas, no footage but none of it was amazing, just fun.

Not many sessions this winter and very short ones at that but I did squeeze a quick one in this morning and learned switch feebles to fakie on this tight little wall... Not a big deal but pretty stoked considering.

Looks like such a fun park.

So how old do you have to be to get up in this? I'm almost 30 and I certainly feel old.

your testicles need to be hanging down at least 6 inches.  ideally 8

N.L. that is fucking sick

butthole and adam, thanks for the advice

After five years of not touching a board I started up again and... I lasted 10 months of skating every day with a week off here and there.  I'm 29 years old. Recently I rolled my ankle pretty bad (couldn't walk without limping for a couple of months and pain consistently) and then I ate it so very hard after landing primo and slipping out (I wasn't expecting to fall so when I did it was brutal), so I'm quitting again. You could say, "pussy!" but I feel like I single-handedly knocked out all of my coordination with one fall. It would be stupid to try and keep skating cause I know I just don't have that focus and coordination left. I would def. fall again and maybe it would be worse. I can't afford a hospital bill. Confidence went straight out the window as well. I basically juiced myself out of the game in one session.

Not saying I'm never coming back but I feel like it's not as fun when you're by yourself. I don't like skateparks either, just not a fan.  I wasn't good as a kid but I figured out heelflips during my return, there's a special secret to landing them I can easily explain to anyone now. It's this one thing you have to do to land it.

Some random thoughts on my brief comeback:
Being the age I am, I don't like the new trend of wider decks like 8+ only.  I'm 6'2 tall and old and yet I still skated a 7.75 and a 7.6.  If I upped to an 8 it's like what's the point?  I feel like skating a big deck and doing tricks on one is purely for a trend hopper who wants to show off for his instagram feed. But hey, I'm the old dude. ...Not to mention it's easy as sh*t to land flip tricks on an 8.  I know I'm not alone in the thought that those trends of big decks and big wheels ought to have stayed in the past. At what point are you just skating a longboard? If that becomes cool I'm fully tuned out.

Something I didn't pay as much attention to before and I did recently was how "flatground" is many things. Skating a tennis court, is one thing. Then there's the street which could be curved, abrasive, etc. so that's it. Paying attention to all the tiny little details of everything was something I didn't do back in the day, but I learned.  Also I noticed how the old pros will all preach "gotta skate, bro." But of course they're saying that, it's their career, if kids stop skating they're out of money. Don't have to look far to find some older pros that are over it too. Some of them even own companies. I'm glad I skated again overall but I'm taking the "signs" and dipping out. I'll post again during BATB

I decided to try and learn kickflips at the ripe and tender age of 43.  Never learned them when I was a kid.  Skipped it.

Any tips?   This is frustrating.

Turning 40 in a month.
On and off (even had a 14 year break) since 1991.
Messed up my leg today but hope it heals soon as I can't wait to go back out there and skate.

43 got back on board like 2 1/2 years back. Bout a year ago I ordered some NB shoes on clearance and tried putting new insoles in em the shoe itself was like a low top and really thin like for tech tricks.  Long story short I had a really nice sesh going with a couple buds and one of em starts stretching saying we are gonna push to another spot and I'm like ok I'll stretch too. I did a little backside 180 on my way from the spot and my toe overextended in the shoe and something popped I self-diagnosed it as Turf Toe? Anyway off the board for like 2 months.  I tried to work a job when I should have taken a break I was in constant pain but ya know I just couldn't wait to get back to skating shit saved my life!  I skate every day, I'm single (by choice), sober,  I quit smoking, I eat right, and I lift one day run the next always, I'm like fucking Henry Rollins over here  MY WAR BITCHES!

I will be 37 in a month and in the last few years i have noticed a tendency of my ankles to swell much easier than they used to (they never used to swell before i reached 28-30).
I got annoyed last weekend because i had 4 hour sessions for three consecutive days and in the end of the third day my ankles were in such a state of swell/pain that i had no control over my board. Do any older dudes here have similar issues and if yes what do you do to reduce the pain and to extend the sessions? I feel that if it wasn't for my ankles i could easy last another couple of hours, which would be great on weekends  :)

Hey, I'm 44 and started up again about a year ago when my son wanted to start skating.
The ankle pain(not swelling) is something I've been dealing with too. I've started taking 500mg of magnesium every night and it really helps with muscle and joint pain in general, it started to work after about a week. Give it a try.

Have you tried those balance/wobble boards? It made wonders to my ankles, i can skate now as much as I want without having to worry about my stiff ankles anymore.

I have not tried those boards but I am not sure if it is going to help as it is mainly not stiffness that I experience but swelling. Then the swelling leads to stiffness and lack of balance. It is like if i skate for longer than 4-5 hours i get swollen ankles. If i travel a long journey (10+ hours being sat down) i get swollen ankles. Dare to walk too much in Barca? - yep, swollen ankles for the rest of my trip.

Man I want those too... I can do fake frontside 50 50s but the alley oop component makes no sense to me.

Speaking of 2" grinds.... Managed to get 2" inches of nose grind on pool coping the other day... excuse the freeze frame grab....
