3D Spring 2014 preview
« on: December 20, 2013, 05:58:22 PM »
As much as I love BA, I feel like 3D has been a big disappointment.

Does anyone else feel like this is a rip off from The Killing Floor skateboards?
Check out the Dylan's 115th Dream and the All Seeing Eye decks.

I'm digging it. Looks similar but it's probably just a coincidence since they're basically collages.

Agreed all around. It was nice to see BA get the company going so soon after leaving Girl, but 3D is just another company. It made positively zero impact. I see the same 3D decks sitting at the shop. Everyone wants to be psyched on it because it's BA, but no one really seems to be.

That board gives off a little bit of a habitat vibe.

I actually like that board, but I cant seem myself buying a 3D deck even though I love BA and I like Austyn too. It's like what Alex Olson said in his Jenkem thing, he thought it was gonna be this whole new thing with BA's art and stuff and instead its just.. Super generic.

I actually think it looks pretty rad. I wouldn't mind picking one up if it's an 8.5

I wouldnt call it a ripoff, its just linear thinking. Shaped decks and triangles are hot shit right now.

My buddy had a 3D awhile ago that seemed to have a nice shape. Probably getting one for my next board.

I loved the stuff BA did for Girl, which is what I thought 3D would be. It's just been mediocre at best.
This graphic is just too similar to what Killing Floor does to be just a happy accident. I'm sure they have run in to TKF stuff online.

You should pick one up, skated the 8.25 and it was a great deck.

This times a thousand. Sad to say but so far it's just a watered down skate mental, and skate mental is great at what it does so that just makes 3D look even more generic

I'm trying to figure out what people want 3D to look like, since everyone seems to hate the shit. I like it. I've liked everything so far.

not so much like skate mental. i don't think the 3d graphics sucks but the brand doesn't really put an image to make it it's own unique brand.  i guess people just highly anticipated a brand by BA and were disappointed in what the brand delivered graphics wise.

This is my point exactly. 3D is still a new brand that just released it's first run of boards in August. Give the company some time to grow. BA is rad and overtime I bet it will blossom into something of it's own.

Thats a shitty excuse, you shouldn't start a company if you don't have a vision for it at all. I cant speak for everyone, but what I was expecting from 3D was something artistic and different from the mind of Brian Anderson. Instead, they just made the most generic shit ever with no image.

Maybe Brian and Austyn should have joined Alex Olsons new company instead of the other way around, he seems to be doing some different and interesting shit.

3d has failed so far. Saw a bunch of their tee shirts in the sale bin at a shop while travelling in the holidays. What do I want it to look like? The inside of BA's mind.

Hate to add another comment on the same thread, but why are people so disappointed at the first and second offerings?  I would say 99% of successful skate brands didn't start out as instant bangers.   Wait patiently for the full release, and give it some time to mature.

Couldn't disagree more. Politic, Magenta, Scum, The Killing Floor, Scumco, and Polar crushed it right out of the gate. I could list about a dozen more, but those come to mind instantly. Love them or hate them, they set a tone for their vision and who they were from the word go. 3D is just silly and a generic mess. It feels rushed and goofy. Like Will says above, a watered down Skate Mental, which is actually a pretty corny brand to begin with. You know what BA did? Took Crailtap board molds (and wood) and barfed a bunch of silly graphics on them.

And completely agree with Deekay's post...the 'give it time' is just a copout and excuse. it's ironic to me that for as much shit as Olson took for jumping ship on Girl and 3D he seems to be building his brand in a very particular way before dropping it.

If you like it, support it. If you don't, support something else. No sense in dissecting the result of something somebody else controls.

No doubt. Especially on a skateboard message board, where the discussion is centered around...skateboards.

Nailed it Heritage. A cohesive vision from the start plays a big role and the companies you mentioned got that straight away.
