IMO, yes. The non-forged are slightly higher and will give you a bit more leverage. The forged look far better though and with the hollow KP feel lighter, if you care about weight. I prefer the non-forged as I ride 55mm+ wheels most of the time. You could always get the forged and use a riser...

Couldn't find them anywhere/taking too long to get to market; picked up some 8.25" Theeves instead.

Ripped Laces did a review:

http://www.rippedlaces.com/2014/04/yes-the-new-thunder-149ii-is-different-better/
I know everything really comes down to personal preference but this seems to seal the deal. Too bad I just got the old 149s not too long ago. DLX should start up a trade-in program (only half joking).

You've obviously never ridden them, and I don't blame you.

I'm thinking of trying these. I ride 8.25, would they go perfect or would the hangar stick out a bit?

They are a 8.25" axle.

So it would be a perfect fit.

How bad is the wheelbite on these? I ride loose trucks and always get a little bit of wheel rub but when I bought a pair of the old 149ers and tried to skate a 56mm wheel I got straight up pitched to the ground. I liked the weight and the way ollies felt but I ditched those trucks quick...

For real, i was strictly indy for years, and the tried the new v3's. They turn and grind perfect.

I ride loose trucks with 55mm and an 1/8th riser. There are marks where the wheels rub but I have not had wheelbite bad enough to pitch me. I think 56mm will be fine with a small riser and the regular baseplates.

I have also used the 151 (which are the same height as the new 149s) with 58mm (and small riser) and not hide serious wheelbite issues.

These with the bones mediums and 52mm wheels is perfect.

My friend was working at Theeve at the time and hooked us all up. I loved em. Most of us did. I had the super fancy/lite ones and a kid at the park offered me 50 bucks for them. Beer money. I had my 149ers to go back to anyway.

We've all been testing them for about a month now, I ride very loose trucks on an 8.38 and sometimes would get wheel bite riding old 149's.
The new ones are considerably higher than the older ones, Indys are 55mm high at the axle, the new 149's are 52.3mm at the axle. So that makes a big difference. Also, as a big fan of smith grinds, the lower set kingpin makes quite a difference as well. We also just wanted to clean up the look of the truck in general, the older 149 hangers were pretty meaty, almost as thick as a venture hanger. The new ones better match the lines of the 147, and the 151.
Everyone should feel free to ask me specific questions about them if you have any.
[close]
Are the new 149s gonna have the white bushings or something else. Personally im a fan of the white ones since they are softer than other ones.
[close]
Guessing different colorways of trucks have different bushings.
Polished always have the clear yellow.
Other colorways vary.
[close]

This.

Also all the stock Thunder bushings that come in the trucks are 90 Duro, regardless of color.
So no matter what color the bushing is they're all  90 duro, I'm glad this was brought to light. I feel like a ton of people think they're different duro based on color. Even in the RL review they mention it.

Sorry, they are about 8.5" but they work perfect for 8.25' boards.

I rode my old 147's today and didn't like them at all compared to my Indys. Sorry DLX. Maybe if Thunder starts making a truck similar to Indy 169's I'd try them. Just can't see myself going back to 149s on an 8.5.

I'm running ACE55s (8.8") on an 8.5" (down from an 8.8") and it feels so odd, I couldn't imagine 169s on an 8.5" - do your wheels stick out?

Just the curved part on the side and the end of the axle, nothing too bad.

Does anyone know if the warranty on Thunders includes when the axle is too damaged and needs to be re-threaded? Or is re-threading an easy DIY fix?

I think Pig makes a tool with a re-threader on it as well for cheaper
