3D vs FA
« on: March 25, 2014, 09:40:28 PM »
Has anyone skated in a 3D or Fucking Awesome board? What's better? I feel like giving one of them a chance on my next board purchase.

3D is just like a Girl/chocolate/Skate Mental. Flattish w/ bigger square nose. Don't know about FA, probably like a Workshop.

Both are currently using ps stix so they're probably pretty comparable

beware of the 8.18 Dill deck coz that thing is super short. Like 31.2 inches long

3D uses crail wood. maybe not the team, but that is what's in shops.

Yeah.  FA Depends.  My friend has the Dill deck.  He says its really short with medium concave and steepish nose and tail.  I've skated a homie's AVE deck and it was super mellow concave with pretty average kicks.  It resembled a workshop for the most part but I can't tell you 100% on the Dill Deck.  I personally would try an FA.  They seem to be more up my alley shape-wise.  I bet both are good.  BA knows what's good so I assume 3D is top notch.
the evidence seems to be in the highwaters.

I am currently skating a Terpening FA board and its rad. 8.18, mellow concave but the tail is a little odd. It almost squares off at the tip. It did say on the FA website that Terpeneings boards was a "special shape". I would try an FA if I were you. I let my friend step on it and he swore that it was just like a workshop board but I personally don't really think so.

Just got this bad boy. 8.5. It has a very square tail, which to me, is a good thing.

that board looks sick. what's the length on that board? i wanted to get the dill split ply, but i can't stand short boards.

Im not sure of the actual length, but it feels good. I like long wheelbases and long noses, so this deck seems like it fits the bill. Its certainly not short. I'd guess it has a 31" wheelbase, or so.

Wheelbase is the space between your trucks, not the total length of the deck.

A deck with a 31" wheelbase would be 4' long.

What is the shape like on the 8.5?  The 8.25 one is pretty mellow but boards get deeper the wider they are

Its pretty mellow, concave-wise. I've never had a Workshop board, but have skated tons of Girl/Choco and it feels similar to that.
Im mostly digging the tail shape.

I'm skating a 3D right now and I love it. I normally skate super mellow boards, and to me my board is just a hair steeper than that. (Which is still pretty mellow. Just not flat like Toy Machines.) I stepped on an FA board and it felt pretty flat, which I liked. Would like to try one at some point.

Prob the best way to describe it. I prefer Chocolate to the others, and after having wanted to buy one of the two aforementioned brands, I went 3D since I know and trust Big Time Dist thus far.

If you have to order FA online plusskateshop.com has some and the shipping isn't as terrible as the FA store.
