Good set-up for a beginner?
« on: April 02, 2014, 09:09:28 AM »
So I want to see if my nephew is into skating or not. He's only 4 1/2, so I was wondering if any of you lot have bought set-ups for your kids (if you have any?) and what's going to be best for him. Don't really want to cheap out on some shit from a toy store.

I would go mini-logo everything. Complete for around 75 bucks, not the best, but it won't degrade over night.

this is probably a good starting point. i was going to suggest to take him to the skate shop and let him pick out everything because thats an awesome experience for a kid, but its going to be pretty pricey. and 4 1/2 is still really young for a kid to get an expensive set up that they might only be interested in for a short period of time.

Buy him your ideal set up and if he loses interest take it back from him

Yeah I know it's running a risk of him losing interest. But he's pretty fearless so I thought it might be fun for him to try!

Yep....this is correct....you can always upgrade down the road and what you're left with is still cool....

Buy him a bunch of stickers too so he can decorate it himself...

Opinions on Blind aside, these soft top completes are really good for smaller kids starting out. My kid loves his and even with the foam griptape I've been able to do a few tricks with it. http://www.skatewarehouse.com/Blind_Classic_Kenny_Soft_Top_Mini_Comp/descpage-BNCYKCMP.html

He'll just turn it over and play cars on it.

build one out of your old shit. if he takes to it, good, if not, no $ wasted.
