Clockcleaner, PRF, Dark Blue

These three bands, all of which are fronted by John Sharkey III of Philadelphia are a real treat. Clcokcleaner is an abrasive sounding band that pays tribute to Flipper, Modern English, Big Black and other bizarre bands of the 70s and 80s that covered some very real and uncomfortable topics. After Clockcleaner, Sharkey did PRF (Puerto Rico Flowers), a slower, gothic style sounding project that projected eeriness and the pains of past torments that failed to disappear. Currently his new band Dark Blue is on the scene and absolutely killing it. I have seen them twice and both times they were exceptional. Sharkey has taken old topics in past songs of Clockcleaner, like skinhead girls, and put them into a very 80's sounding english new wave sound. Noteably, Dark Blue does an amazing cover of John Cale's "Hungry for Your Love".
