Old product that absolutely sucked
« on: May 27, 2014, 12:09:00 PM »
Phantom trucks.. A decal and plastic baseplates, who's fucking idea was this?

Helium inside a skateboard, woo lets charge 80$ because we trapped air inside wood.

Just off the top of my head, anyone have other examples?

New wave boards. I know flip was big on them. I had a toy machine one and it was garbage. One of the only boards I've broken skating flat ground and I only had it a few weeks. Even when I went through boards faster, I'd always get more than a month out of one.

The kevlar boards Santa Cruz put out were pretty dirt in my opinion. If you chipped the nose or tail the kevlar threads would start to fray and it would look like your board was shitting out yarn. And really, most any kind of board that has something besides wood in it is almost invariably going to be complete trash. But the kids love that stuff so I can understand why companies do it.

Forgot all phantom trucks (As well as kreper trucks, i mentioned earlier in another thread). Never actually saw anyone with a pair of these, had no idea the baseplates were plastic! Lmao. As far as my personal experience/ memory of shitty skate products....

Titan trucks, enough said.

Used to be on a big ricta kick when they first came out 12 years ago. I remember i won some nhs internet contest, and got a pair of ricta wheels that were hollow, cracked in half after an hour of skating.

P2, i know some people dig them, but the zero board i had that was p2, was complete shit, nothing compares to traditional 7 ply wood.

Duffs, one of the worst skate shoe brands ever, cant believe cooper wilt still skates for them, nor can i believe they are still in business! Horrible shoes!

Actually, just about any skate shoe i owned between 2000-2005, was god awful, minus a few.

The OG tensor trucks with the slider piece.

Doh Doh Bushings

Not technically "skate products" but.... Light blue, pre faded blind jeans.
And
Flexfit hats.
This has me cracking up, what exactly does Black Flag have to do with measuring your dick starting behind ya nuts?

Skateboarding is nothing but a game to find the right fits to appear like you're a proportional human being instead of a midget or a giant.

Havent skated any p2's in minute but ive skated like 5-6 and the only shitty one was a zero board as well. The Toy Machine, Habitat, & skate mental ones I had all served me very well.

bruh, i remember i wanted phantom 2's soooo fucking bad, i eventually bought them off some fuckboy who couldn't/quit skating, only to break them on some stairs that same week...

also SLIP TAPE! which i cant say sucked for sure... but the concept i don't agree with

and to add one more, i remember when i use to post on skateboard.com (like 2001-2006) someone posted this product that was essentially plastic angle iron, you take to the spot so you wouldnt damage it.

I disagree on this one, the World street survival tool had a weed pipe in it and you could buy it if you were under 18. Just remove the screwdriver and voila, a weed pipe.

Phantom trucks had metal baseplates.  So did phantom 2's, and they both sucked, but not as bad as z-rollers.  G&S trucks had  reinforced plastic baseplates, they sucked too, but I liked them.  Trackers were plastic and garbage.  The Glow in the dark Kreepers were hilarious, but I don't know anyone that actually rode them.

Helium boards didn't trap air, and they weren't $80, well maybe they were in Canada.

Santa Cruz Foam core decks were junk.  Pretty much any slick too.
Every wheel that was translucent, and 90% of any colored wheels.
Copers, lapers, and as mentioned, Bridge bolts and whatever came before them.

I'm posting from my blackberry wtf?!?!?

The P2 weave boards served a purpose, my buddy had one it was only weird on the bottom so you can't really notice it. They were stronger than normal decks

Fuck yea, skate warehouse and a few others have a nice selection. My sticker game is always on point, i got to have at least one on every board i get, but every now and then, if i really like the graphic, ill run it with no stickers, very rarely though. I couldnt speak on sticker selection of local core shops however, because there are none in my area.

Once i met a guy at the skatepark who had a really flexy board. The edges looked like he taped some weed on the deck.

I asked him about it and he told me that the board he rode was from the brand "Cannaboards" - boards made out of cannabis.
I don't know if they still exist and if they shipped to other countries than Germany. It seemed pretty weird to me. The flexibility of the board was like a 7ply with 2 broken plies in the middle and on nose and tail.
