Sizing up
« on: June 24, 2014, 09:03:12 AM »
I've been riding 8.0"-8.25" decks on indy 139 8" axle trucks for the last 4 years and want to size up. Would an 8.25" work on some indy 149 8.5" trucks? Should I get risers?

I've skated 8.25 on 149s for years and it works just fine. I use risers but I always have, you dont really need them.

I would, but I have always used risers no matter what board size. Right now I am riding an 8.8

149 Indy's will work real nice on an 8.25. When you look down at your deck you won't really notice any axle sticking out from the sides even though 149's are 8.5. The wheel's riding surface will match up almost flush with the sides of the deck and make for a really solid/stable feeling ride. I never use risers because Indy's are pretty tall already and I never really get any wheelbite with them. If you're riding wheels 56mm and up then maybe try some risers. Hope that helps.

I sized up recently. Was at 8.25 with Indy 149's and it feels great. Currently have 8.375 with Indy 149's. definitely recommend 149s with 8.25.

As for risers, for 52-54mm, i say no. I ride 52-53mm, for even big pools, street, and everything (same with grant, greyson, etc.), and even have the hollow baseplate which is 1mm lower. with standard stage 11 55mm height, you do NOT need risers, otherwise you lose stability being so higher from the ground and lose response time. If you wonder why not everyone should have high trucks with inch high risers, see mark suciu's skating. I digress..
