New wheel co by Chet Thomas- Wreck Wheels
« on: July 19, 2014, 06:32:16 PM »
Just saw this press release recently:

I hope things are well with you. Things are great here. Besides my continued commitment to managing Darkstar Skateboards and merchandising responsibilities at Dwindle Distribution, I have teamed up with the world's leading urethane manufacturer, Aend Industries, In a joint venture -completely separate from the Dwindle -to create a new company called Wreck Wheels.

I am proud to welcome you to the World's Best Urethane. Made exclusively at our factory in the USA, our proprietary Ruin Formula utilizes the highest quality compounds, curatives, and components. This high performance formula welds 30 years of lab development experience, advanced processing techniques and extensive street testing into the world's most flatspot resistant, fastest & longest lasting wheels.

Wreck is more than just a marketing company that slaps it's name on OEM urethane... we are a true wheel brand - the factory, chemist, and manufacturer - who controls the process from A to Z. Our formulas are exclusive to Wreck, and all our urethane is made in our state-of-the-art facility in Huntington Beach, California.

It's worth mentioning that Wreck Wheels outperform existing wheel brands in both abrasion (wear) testing, and rebound (speed) testing. Nothing on the market compares to our quality and performance. Wreck's Ruin Formula surpasses Bones, Spitfire, and Ricta (among others).

I have developed this formula through extensive testing, skating, and refinement with decades of urethane experience and I stand by this statement 110%. Below are some recent test results that show the amount of material lost and percentage rebound after conducting wear and speed testing.

Brand   Material lost %   Rebound %
1   Wreck   5.90%   72%
2   Spitfire   9.10%   69%
3   Bones   10.30%   60%
4   Ricta   22.90%   65%
5   Gold   23.40%   67%
6   Pig   25.30%   67%

Abrasion test video: ( wear test )

Rebound test video: ( speed test )
http://vimeo.com/98596035

The  launch of Wreck Wheels has just begun and the World's best urethane is now available for everyone to shred through Eastern and Ocean avenue distribution.

Did a "field test" with these wheels for a norwegian mag yesterday, I'll post the video later today.

I remember dark stars anti flatspot wheels being surprisingly good, if these are anything similar I would be interested to try them

Stresstest - Wreck Wheels

We managed to give them a little bit of flatspot, but I'm pretty sure they would just roll out if I continued skating with them.
On the other hand, they are way too grippy for my taste. You really have to lean in to make them powerslide, I'll stick to STFs.

Man, all that and just a "little bit of flatspot" - I'd say these are pretty decent wheels, at least by that measure

A good buddy of mine managed to get quite a few sets of Wreck's in various sizes to try out (I guess he knows people, hah).  He posted a photo on Instagram of his wheel package. I hit him up and asked him if I could get a set to try, and he said yes. I'm stopping by his place later tonight to grab a set. I'll report back soonish with how they skate and how I like them.

So i set them up last night, and skated all night with them. For an 83B duro wheel, they sure are on the grippy side. How can a wheel be that hard and still be that grippy? I was expecting something like an STF with that duro, but it's totally different. I was skating a manny pad and trying a manual BS 180 out and I couldn't get the 180 revert out at first because of how grippy they were. I really had to put a lot of force in my shoulders and turn hard for it to work. Usually I just slightly turn and they go with me, but not for these.
Sliding aside, as for the overall feel of the wheel, I didn't really like it. I can't really describe it since they have a feeling of their own completely different from F4s or STFs, but they just don't feel right for me.
I don't care how durable they are or how much rebound they have, if they don't feel right, then it's over.
Gonna get a few more sessions in with them, and if i still can't learn to like them then I'm putting back on my worn but still good 101 F4s.

Sorry Chet.

Sorry Chet.

The 'super hard but still don't slide' description sounds like Landshark HxC wheels. When it came it came to like a tailslide or lipslide it was fine but powerslide or even a little revert they stuck like glue. I completely lost flstground cabs with those fuckers because they wouldn't even slide the last ~30 degrees, and I haven't had them that good even since.

I doubt I ever would've tried these anyway but was kinda hoping the hear good feedback, options are good and all.

haha i rode those darkstar wheels when darkstar was just a wheel company and they had those no flatspot wheels when the company first came out. they were actually pretty good, i didnt buy a shit ton of them but thats probably because they lasted a while. werent too sticky too.

too bad chet didnt test a prize fighter wheel in that sample, i would be curious to see how theyd fair in the same scenario.
