Robin Williams commits suicide
« on: August 11, 2014, 04:12:03 PM »
Holy shit! One of my favorite actors and comedians ever:

http://insidemovies.ew.com/2014/08/11/robin-williams-dead-at-63/

Quote
Oscar winner and comedian Robin Williams died this morning at 63. While his publicist wouldn?t confirm that his death was a suicide, a rep did issue this statement. ?Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.?
Williams, who won an Oscar for his supporting role in Good Will Hunting, will reprise his role as Theodore Roosevelt in the third installment of Night at the Museum this December. He had recently signed on to reprise his beloved role as Mrs. Doubtfire in a sequel to be directed by Chris Columbus, and was last seen opposite Annette Bening in the indie film The Face of Love. His sitcom The Crazy Ones premiered on CBS last fall, but was not picked up for a second season.
According to a press release issued by the Marin County Coronor?s office, the Sheriff?s office suspects the death to be ?suicide due to asphyxia.? The 9-1-1 phone call came in just before noon today.

Unlike a lot of celebrity deaths, I'm actually pretty upset by this one. He always seemed like a really good guy to me. Also, whenever I watched his movies and his characters were sad, upset, etc., it just felt so real, almost too real. That's sort of eery I guess.

Agreed. I'm bummed. We recorded him last year for the launch of that terrible show he was on and he was the sweetest man. He was really quiet and friendly. I couldn't believe how kind he was. :(

Pan the fucking man! Literally one of my childhood movie stars growing up. Even saw him once shopping at SF and ironically buying a skateboard at FTC. I was told he always bought his kids stuff on Haight St and even wore streetwear stuff himself. Seemed like a rad guy.

This is shitty. I don't know the appropriate words, but I also grew up with his films and was a fan. He has a great career. Loved seeing him in Louie CK's show recently.

This blows. Always loved his stuff and his acting was really good. His speech in Dead Poet's Society is amazing. This ruins my whole week.

i know exactly what you mean. like you could see the pain in his eyes, even when doing comedies.

i'm so bummed about this.  Mrs Doubtfire, Jumanji, What Dreams May Come, Bicentennial Man and Death To Smoochy are some of my favorites.

as a kid, i watched Mrs Doubtfire on VHS almost every day. the movie had so many classic scenes, but this one was the best.

A run-by fruiting (Mrs. Doubtfire)

R.I.P.

Was talking about suicide  few days ago and today we received the news that Robin Williams killed himself. Now  We living in society is to live in a status of neurosis, as Freud and Nietzsche said, suicide today is no more than a banality, in a society that God does not make any difference. Religion had always been the trump card of punishment, however, this and other dogmas are being sprayed by pragmatic capitalism and an irrational and materialistic philosophy. Capitalism still propagates sentimentality days as parents because it gives profit when it is no economic value also will not make the most difference. The nihilism, the denial of life, lack of direction.

Probably the most bummed I've ever been on the death of a celebrity thus far. Mental illness and depression is not to be dealt with likely.

Good Will Hunting - No Regrets

Its weird when i think back and realize Robin Williams has played such an important role in movies that span the years of my childhood to adulthood. This is one of my favorite movies of all time and its mostly because of how good his character is in it.

RIP to a truly gifted individual

Often the case with comedians.

He seemed like he had a good heart. He positively affected a hell of a lot of people. I only hope he was aware of that before he died.

What a selfish little pussy
Weren't you the one saying how devoed you were that your neighbour topped himself like a week ago?

Pretty sad about this news. Amazing actor and always seemed like a rad dude. It sucks that a man who had the ability to make all of us so happy couldn't be happy himself. :(

Such a bummer. Watched him heavily in Hook and Jumanji growing up. I was looking at watches at Macy's on Christmas eve one year and he walks around this wall and stands right next to me. I admit i was starstruck but 'Hey, hows it going?"  came out of my mouth without thinking twice. He was real friendly and said the same back and shook my hand. My dad and I both noticed how hairy his hands were and how red his eyes were.

yeah, my exwife and i once had this conversation how he was so uncomfortable being himself that he nonstop kept up the banter. i said some awful stuff but over time he won me over [after liking him as mork as a child]. death to smoochy, goodwill hunting and all those serious roles where i could empathize w/ him instead of him distracting us from his misery via manic jokes fired out all staccato.
the man underneath seemed decent and hurt. i'm especially partial to his cameo on SVU as merritt rook aka detective milgram. he warned us about autopilot 'just following orders' existence.
may you have peace now, RW

he really excelled in creepy roles, too. insomnia and one hour photo were two of my favorites.
