139's on a 8.38
« on: August 14, 2014, 06:09:52 PM »
Been riding 139's on a 8.25 for about a year now.  Never had a problem with it but I've never tried 149's before.  Anyone have any experience with 149's on a 8.38?

Get trucks that'll fit your board; 149s on anything 8.25 and above.

8.25" trucks or bigger!

ACE44s, Mini Logo 8.38s, Theeve 5.85 or 149s

I was going to make the switch to 149s and I have a setup with 149s and an 8.38 deck. I quit riding it and went back to 139s (or technically to 8" Venture 5.2s) on a 8.12 deck.

That said, I think 149s are the better truck for an 8.38 provided you are running reasonably narrow wheels. 8.38 is too magic carpet-y on 8" trucks unless you are Mark Appleyard, who apparently digs that setup.

I think 139's are good on an 8.25-8.38. I never put 149's on anything smaller than an 8.5 but I had 8.5 axle Thunders on an 8.38 once and I could see the axle nuts from the top view. Barely, but enough to set off OCD. In general though 149's feel better to ride so if you don't mind a couple millimeters of axle peeking out then do it.

Or say fuck it and move up to an 8.5...

149s are a very solid investment. my usual setup is an 8.12 with 149s. i'd imagine they feel great on wider boards as well but i don't really go above 8.25

After making the move from 147 to 149, everything felt better. Been riding 8.25 for the last couple of years.

I've riden 139's on a 8.375 and would not recommend it. Unstable and lots of wheel bite.

I skate anything from 8.18 to 8.25 and that's the highest I usually go, I need new trucks, at the moment I have Indy stage 10 149s on an 8.25 but they were hand-me-downs and Ive only skated them for two months so ive only used them on an 8.25, how do they go on an 8.18? I'm tossing up between 139 or 149 stage 11's but I've also heard good things about ace's. Also, Ive never fucked with changing around the stock bushings so what bushings would people recommend. This makes me sound very new to skating but in actuality Ive been skating for around 8 years and have just never bothered/ cared about how much trucks have felt until now.
So Colllin have the same t-shirts, seven years by now, at least...

i keep going back and forth between 8.18 and 8.25 on 149's...both are fine. if you think about it, is .07 of an inch going to make a difference? ive skated 139's & 149's on both size boards currently skating 8.18 with 149s and am lovin it.

Rad. Was wondering if 149's on an 8.18 would be awkward as I am about to set up an 8.18 FA,  cheers.

If you're really interested just give it a try and see how it feels. I know a few of the baker guys ride an 8.5 with 139s, so it can't be that bad. I'll second the extra washer on the inside of the wheel, I've tried 149s a bunch of times and never really stuck with it, so I put three washers inside my 139s to give me a little more space and it feels great. Light like a 139 and a wider ride like 149s.
