What are YOU carrying?
« on: October 02, 2014, 09:14:12 PM »
Why is there a knife company trying to sell me lock knives on here?

This could probably be in whatever, but it is on the front page so it must be skate related.

What a creepy slogan.

They've(Kershaw)been having ads in Thrasher the past few issues so I guess it's all high speed productions. Maybe somewhere along the way their marketing team sensed skaters were a viable demographis to target. I'm in maintanance and have carried a blade all my life. Kershaw are some top notch knives though if anyone cares.

kershaws are cool. they have lifetime sharpening and aren't too expensive. nothing is better than a benchmade. period. although for the contemporary/skater set, neither hits the buttons as hard as, say the james brand knives. they are fucking amazing and run by cool people to boot. expensive though.

kinda surprised this was moved, isn't it an equally valid topic as worst sponsors?

I carried a knife in high school when I thought i was cool. I still have one somewhere, but i would never skate around with it. keys wallet phone is already too much.

Good choice. Never know when you may need to pick ice.

I hadn't realised all skaters were carrying.

I'm thinking this:

Could we get some gun ads too?

i think kershaw would be a sick sponsor. i carry a knife (spyderco if anyone cares) and its handy as fuck, and if someone wanted to give me free knives, that would be awesome. i dont know why everyone doesnt carry a small pocket knife or multi tool with them because i use mine a ton. i dont think of it as a weapon or a form of protection or anything like that either, just a nice thing to have and i get a lot of use out of it.

Benchmade are decent production knives. If you can handle them in person and see what you're getting they'll do the trick for the average daily utility. If you're buying online, try to talk to the dealer first, because the quality control on the fit and finish, blade grind, centring etc, is sometimes brutal. If you're paying Benchmade prices, you shouldn't be worried about getting some dull, wonky ass blade with stripped torx screws.  Some of the shit they let hit the shelves is embarrassing. Spyderco on the other hand is not fucking around. Best production knives for the money. I say this as an owner of more than a few of each. Kershaw makes great beater knives. Fun flippers and assisted openings that you wouldn't be too bummed to fuck up or drop somewhere. You're not going to be running a Kershaw for more than a few years. Cheap steel is just that. Also the clips are horrible.

Also, that Black James blade looks tight. As for civil ware. LOL at 150 bucks for a blade made out of a file. Heat treated or not, that shit is a stupid idea.

A reasonably sized pocket knife is a versatile tool. It shouldn't be thought of as a weapon.

People who carry a "tactical blade" for "self defence" have obviously never read any case law around the use of knives in an attack. Let me just say that if you don't absolutely think you're going to be murdered, don't pull a knife. If you are at risk, go ahead and pull the knife, use it, and enjoy your jail time. Try explaining in court that you had it on you to open mail, or slice your apple at lunch.

I saw a series of images on imgur of what Americans carry in their purses/bags ... ALL of them had a knife! A lot of them had guns too. I was socked beyond belief.

If you need a knife as a tool, get the swiss knives, not these single purpose stabbing sticks.
