Watching a youtube video and giving ad revenue to these youtube 'stars' is a pretty lazy form of 'support.'

I bet they make shit sales off boards because most people wouldn't actually put down money for their stuff but it would be offset from all the crazy youtube money.

I hear revive skateboards is a money laundering scheme for a heroin producer.

Following the suicide of a friend of the main character, theres a quote that says,"I heard he was pretty messed up on drugs when he did it.      :o
i get the joke it's just not funny and doing school for a long time doesn't make you not a dipshit.

They're probably thinking it's a ton of money most other companies overlook.

Its also quite ingenious to market your company to guys who are forever
stuck at beginning level skating.

When you back that marketing scheme with a gluttonous amount of positivity
and happiness in every youtube video then you're promoting an alibi for the guys
who suck at skating to continue on skating.

Andy Shrock's mantra is 'skating is fun' and we all know that, but he implies
it in the sense that he and his friends can have ridiculous levels of fun doing monotonous
tricks like zany 50-50s or 3 kickflips in a row followed by 3 high fives. Which again
is really accessible to guys who suck because the implied gratification you can get
from doing what these guys do is on par with something like Shake Junt.

There's a lot of awkwardness out there and Andy Shrock is here to help
with his team of helmet wearing scientologists

Ehh, Revive is a company run by actual skaters that seem to care about skateboarding so I have no problem with it.  It's a gateway into skating for some kids that live on youtube.

I do think the notion of a "pro model" is kind of lame for a company like this but I also feel that way about a lot of my favorite small independent brands.

I'm all for anything that gets people on boards.  They might quit after a week, they might be kooks, they will probably get in your way if you're at the park but hopefully some of them grow with skating and find the same love for it that we all have.  Once they're away from the computer it's an opportunity for them to become their own person.  Which hopefully leads to them walking into their local skate shop and buying some products.

Graphics wise, I think Revive should totally rethink their whole thing.
Maybe hire proper designers etc. It's barely 1st year of design school level.
Compare their graphics to most board brands and you'll see what I mean.
You can't compare say, Polar, Palace, Sovrn, FA or The Killing Floor to Revive.

Another thing that striked me is their use of "pro" models for their boards.
I mean, they're actually paying monthly checks to their pros based on board sales?

I'm not dissing or anything, just asking.

In regards to art, you have to consider the audience they are targeting.  The same person that is attracted to art from Pontus is not going to be the same person that buys a Revive tie dye deck.

I assume the guys with their names on boards are getting paid a royalty per board sale.  Aaron Kyro is likely getting bigger checks than a lot of my favorite "indie" pros - Brian Downey, Kevin Rodrigues, etc.

I was objective as far as design (not talking about my own tastes).
The thing is, you can't really pinpoint any genre in their boards or other gear, they're all over the place.
I was mostly talking about their lack of proper technique, execution and identity.
Good for them if they sell boards, but I just think their boards are an insult to
all the dudes who have talent and would love to design boards.
