Vans Lampin?
« on: November 20, 2014, 07:15:11 PM »
Can anyone give me some info on these shoes? If they were someones pro model, or who wore them in videos and stuff. I just found some at the Goodwill, pretty much brand new. They have a sick design, and I know I've seen em in videos before.

Rowley used them as a pro-model.

I remember that Ethan Fowler used to wear the original ones right after Toy Machine just when he got on Stereo.

There was a Slap interview from 94 where he rocks them in a lot of the pics. I remember it because it's the infamous interview where he talks about jazz and smoking heroin with his buddies when he was a teenanger. At the time it really blew my mind. I also remember it because his outfits were pretty far different from that era uniform and I changed my whole kit due to him.

EDIT:

It's this one - via chromeball, of course.

It doesn't allow me to embed the pages:

These are the best pics:

And I believe that in his A Visual Sound part there are featured a lot but it's difficult to see due to the grainy 16 mm footy.

Oh how I miss Stereo Ethan...

Had a pair of Green and Black back in Summer of 94, As far as I remember they skated good. I remember them walking all over St Louis in those and my feet being hella hot. Would not want them now. But hey thats whats in style......

Vans Lampins were such a sick shoe! I still have these three pairs and will occasionally skate the black n burgundy ones. The suede was so thick, they last forever. Plus the old USA made vans had really dense soles that didn't wear out easy at all. Funny to think that this simple model was considered to be vans kinda "hip hop" shoe as it originally even came with fat laces. Those Rowley shoes looked nothing like Lampins in person, and haven't seen the Supreme ones. ^^30 Helens, cool yours still has the og fat laces. My burgundy ones dont have them anymore.

When I saw the Huf authentics I thought of these shoes.....

I had a few pairs of those Rowley Specials and loved them. I wish they'd bring the Lampin back into the regular Vans line, maybe make it a Pro Classic or something.

I miss Ethan in general. I know he plays with his band now but I wish he still was associated in skating.

Vans will find a way to fuck them up, they've been doing a really good job at that.

There looks like there's something off with them in that insta pic (and it's not just the colourway although the toecap/ tongue should be black to match the sidewall)

Japanese reissue was still closer to the OG imho: http://www.abc-mart.net/shop/g/g5264510010016/

Yep, those Jap lamps are legit. You can tell just by looking at that instagram pic how slimmed and shitty they are. The laces are not the old thick cotton ones like the OG. Seems like es is the only skate shoe company that did a proper reissue with the Accel OG's. However, they did slim down the Sal 23's and took away the "puffyness".

Looks like I'm stuck wearing Vans core classics till my feet can't take it anymore. After that I may try some PF Flyers. Skate industry shoes are completely whack in 2016.

I agree, the Japanese ones look nearly perfect. These remakes now are fucked. Aside from being totally different shaped than OGs, they have a foxing stripe which real lampins never had.
