Best cheaper bearings
« on: January 30, 2015, 07:55:13 PM »
These aren't for me, I always go with Swiss.

What are the best cheaper bearings?

Are super reds much better than reds? Are Indy comparable?

I haven't skated reds in years,  tried Indys once and went back to bones.

There is no duty here. Bearings however are a burn. Swiss will set you back $700 hk.

Would you recommend a Bianca Chandon hat instead?

i have had a set of indy 7's for 2 years now, they're great. i used to get mini logo bearings all the time, never had a problem with those either.

can't beat that.  if you can't afford Swiss at that price, stop skating/breathing

The shipping makes them double the cost but maybe cheaper if we buy 4 sets or so.

$23 for Swiss is insane. Cheers,  I'll see if they're keen. May as well stock up on a couple more sets myself...

When i was younger my father gave me some speed demons abec 5, i thought they were the coolest bearings at the time! these mother fuckers last me about 3/4 years of skating and i just bought new ones becaus the speed demons were becoming slower... But for 15 i think i was well served! But for me the best cheaper bearings are Reds, its just the no brainer... for more 5 you get the speed you need and they last preety well too.

Reds are the obvious choice.

However, I would recommend the Spitfire Cheapshots
Ive been using them on my rain-setup the last two years, and everytime they hold up at least 15 sessions
Which is ALOT under wet conditions!

I've skated a few pairs expensive Bones Swiss 6 Ball for the last 4-5 years and overall they have been solid except that I started to notice rust on the outer races.  I never skate in the rain so I was surprised to see this.

Anyway, I found out about Route Supply which make stainless steel (highly rust resistant) bearings with built-in spacers and speed rings - http://routsupplyco.com/steel-built-in-bearings

I actually ordered the more expensive ceramic version but gave those to a buddy before skating them since I wanted to stick with steel balls

I wont have them until next week but I'll post some detailed pics and a review in this thread.  Looking at the specs, you cant beat them for $15 and the simple fact that you never have to think about spacers or speed rings is a huge bonus since I lose the damn things every time i rotate or change a wheel

Can't lie, I've had a set of these running for a little while and I don't really have any complaints. They're made by the same people who make bones bearings.

Indy Blacks are for sure your best bet.

Due to ordering other things, it will probably come down to these or the super reds.

Are these any better?

The 7's were ok.

super reds are decent. ive had them on a set up that doesnt see a ton of skate time for about a year and one has kind of gunked up and needs to be cleaned. other than that, theyre pretty solid. i dont notice any difference from them and my swiss unless i skate really smooth ground and even then theres not much of a difference. swiss just seem to last a lot longer.

if i had to get a set of cheap bearings, id go super reds or give mini logos a try.

Man, I remember when I saved every cent I could to get some Swiss with the metal gold shield.  Those were my pride and joy back in the day

I had a set of Indy bearings and thought they were garbage. I think they were sevens. If I was on a budget it would be Reds, period. They're really good and cost like 16-17 bucks, and like any decent bearing if you take care of them they'll last. I've had Super Reds too and they were pretty good but I don't think I'd buy them again - I'd just buy Reds if I was low on cash, or Swiss if I was flush.

I've been skating the same two sets of bearings for almost 4 years now. One swiss one reds, they just won't die.

yo I bought a set of those 25$ swiss bearings on ebay and they had to be a knock off. things barely moved out of the box and were all shot after skating two weeks at almost just the skate park - they didn't touch water. just a heads up!

Just go to your local and invest in swiss... they'll outlast anything else and are just simply the best

pretty much. you can get a few years out of a set of swiss. or you can go the cheap route and get new bearings every month or two. you buy two or three sets of cheap bearings and you've already hit the amount you wouldve spent on swiss.
