Durable non-denim pants
« on: April 18, 2015, 03:48:12 PM »
It’s too hot for jeans now, so I’m switching to cotton slacks/Dickie’s-ish pants. I love the flexibility and the nice circulation, but I rip these at the knee way too often. Plus, they pale in comparison to denim for protecting from shinners (a near-daily occurrence). What kind of material or type of pants provide a good medium? Flexibility, circulation, and somewhat tough? Can't afford much outside of the thrift store, though...

I recently bought a pair of carhartt rugged work khaki's from this outlet in Knoxville, and once I wore them and loved them, I found 4 more pairs online. They were 20$, and some sites with them gave like 30-40% off, so you can get them for relatively cheap. I got brown and khaki, and they don't seem to fade at all. Super durable and long lasting

if you're looking to splurge, I skate in Carhartt WIP's Sid pants and they fit/move like a dream. cotton/twill blend wears in perfectly. Pricey but you can wear them year-round, to meetings, at the bar, etc.

Damn those pants look nice...but I think they're trying to hustle with the $125 price tag. They're trying to sell Polar decks for $115 LOL. I think about half the price is a justifiable purchase.

Do you only have the super thin Dickies or have you tried some of the thicker ones? They make some out of Poplin which are the incredibly thin ones that'd tear at knees easily I'm sure but they also make these Twill ones.

I skate in the Twill and Poplin and these Twill ones are much thicker and way more durable. They've protected against shinners pretty well. Honestly have never torn a pair of these all the way through before. Plus they're still under $30

Krew makes really good slacks. Also go with the Levis non denim pants too.

Columbia isn't too bad and you can sometimes find their pants at thrift stores.

Krew makes the best pants period, the K Klassic chinos are amazing, nice stretch, not to thick or thin, and very high quality.

Holy fuck, thanks for your input, dear humans

Dear Wizard Fight: I'm also teaching this term and preparing for a show in PDX, and I'm so fucking behind that I think I need to put all of my semi-sexual endeavours with men on hold for a week... it's pretty fucked. I love you, I promise

Also, have have wrestled more non-bears than bears at this point =O (

This is weird to type out. Dockers make these pants called Alpha Khakis and they are fucking awesome. Triple stitched. Thick cotton and they fit a little slimmer than dickies 874 but not as skinny as the dickies skinny ones. You can get em on sale at Macy's or jc penny a lot. I got two pairs for 55 bucks. Not bad.
