It really varies based on what kind of wax you're starting with.

Recently, I made a batch with 1 tablespoon of petroleum jelly, about 150 grams of target brand pillar candle shavings, and a tablespoon of vegetable oil. I think next time I'm gonna try to make some with 2 tablespoons of petroleum jelly and 200 g of candle shavings, and skip the veggie oil.

You really gotta play with it to get it perfect. the key is small batches till you've found a ratio you like

Combine one part $5 bill, one part grocery store, using only "Households" aisle. Mix at cash register (a sixer and a pack of Pall Malls optional). Discard receipt and enjoy your wax.

The best wax I ever made was boiling down slightly used novena candles that I bought from the Salvation Army for a quarter each and pouring the wax into a milk carton.  It was deadly slick.  One night, I left it at a spot and it was gone by the time I remembered.

deodorant and soap are good alternatives. certain paints also work well too if you're able to do that to the spot you're trying to skate.

if you need to break in a concrete ledge, use an aluminum can as opposed to running your trucks over it a bunch of times like a jackass

and yeah, Gulf wax is the shit and is in literally every supermarket in america- usually costs less than two bucks for a box of four blackboard eraser-sized bars.

what else...I've heard dog shit works if you're really in that much of a jam. for good measure I'd say a fine mix of that and melted plastic or rubber- to be applied immediately before said rubber dries
sanch dont be mad because your wife used to clean my mansion

and................... your still a mark!!!!!

Babybel cheese wax coating works wonders.

Eat a ton of these things, bulk the coatings up to a decent chunk and wax the ledge of your choice. Even gnarly concrete ledges will slide and grind like a motherfucker and it won't get washed off by rain at all. Best stuff around, been waiting for this to take over.

need wax.

I've been making my own wax since the 1900's.  This recipe is the right mix that works well for making a curb that's already worked in slick and will also work well for working in a curb that hasn't been waxed.

3/4's dollar store emergency candles and 1/4 parowax and throw in a crayon or two for a specific color.   Cut the top off a tallboy beer can. Smash the shit out of the candles and parowax and put them them in the can.  Put it on the BBQ until it all melts to one solid color.  Let cool and cut the can so you can peel it off your new beer shaped wax.
