I remember back in high school there was this hype beast kid I was kinda friends with, one day he came to school with a brand new set up. Needless to say I was hyped, but then I was mega let down after when I asked him "lets go skate sometime" and he replied with "Oh man I don't really skate it's more of just an accessory". That's the absolute definition of a poser.

That shit guys from sweeden and he was interviewed I guess afterward "you never quit, once you start quitting it gets easier to quit" was along the lines of the quote.  He wasnt fukin phased by the shit incident - giving interviews with inspirational quotes in them.   I saw a guy who was a total fuckng poser gets the job at the skate shop and THEN starts skating.  Anyway a year later I saw him with nose mannies, it was rad!

There's a difference between learning to skate and being a poser. Does that mean we were all posers the first year until we had been doing it long enough to claim legitamacy? Learning to skate means trying the basics, ollie, kickflip, 50-50, etc. while being a poser means showing up, acting like your hot shit and not being able to back it up

Yea I certainly hope there isn't some inherent "poser period" in skateboarding like the "everyone's a kook when they start" mentality in surfing. Skateboarding is super judgmental as it is, with everyone sizing everyone up as some clown with a board until they see a proper trick get thrown down. Surfing has taken that shit to this ridiculous level where everyone hates everyone else with a surfboard, even if they're good, because they're not local or sponsored or some superficial bullshit.

I love surfing but skateboarding is way cooler when it comes to community (and a lot else, really).
