hyped but i'm poor so i'll get it second hand a couple of months after it drops.
looks cool open world style, hopefully they cut down on the overkill story. it's just fucking stupid at this point. longass cutscenes about nanomachines and shit.

MGS was my favorite series but I don't really play anything anymore and David Hayter isn't playing Snake. But I might get it later on. I like the open world.

eh im just gonna get a usb receiver for my xbox 360 controller, pretty sure the PC version is optimized for a windows controller anyway

Got the game at 9pm launch at game stop. The prologue is insane. Building the mother base is sick for sure time consuming.

Dope to replay the first missions and try to achieve all the goals. So much stuff and things to do, develop and get the items needed to do so.

This game is going to take away some social time for sure.

Really stoked on the intro - the moby dick reference was really cool.

I loved and played pretty much every single mgs game but there's some annoying
stuff in it.

Like a lot of the assets in the first map are used over and over again.

The rendering of landscape whilst looking through binoculars during the day
is really bad.

And Mother Base feels really pointless so far, like theres not really anything to do there.


Im only like 3-4 hours in so I'll see how Mother Base pans out during the rest of the game

Just finished mission 1 "phantom limbs" with all tasks done 6/6.

Took a while to do it, extracting Miller was the easy part.

Onto mission 2 tonight.. Can't wait.

I collected the plant needed in mission 2 "Hero's Way". But doesn't say I completed it.

I got it in free roam mode and in mission mode, too. Weird!

On my way to rescue Miller. I can't believe the prologue took an hour, but it is MGS so I shouldn't be surprised. Long cut scenes and huge action scenes are par for the course. The game is crazy good so far, if a little overwhelming when you're first let loose on the world.

I liked the linear gameplay of MGS that didn't necessarily force you to play a certain way.  I only finished past mission 6, but I got kind of bored of the same desert setting.  And I hear it's only two big maps not including mother base.

It's a swamp area, I guess.

I got a map that came with the collectors pack and it shows the desert and a swamp area.

Okay, just finished this.  Turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected. 
You have to put some extra work into getting the whole story, but it was pretty worth it to get your money's worth.
Pretty impressed with how Kojima tied the story together considering how long of a stretch this series has been around.

I've been playing this on the Steam controller. 10/10, the trackpad and custom controller settings tailored to the game makes for easier headshots than a xbox controller.

I've just rescued Code Talker (probably the most fun mission so far, loved the mansion setting and the old feel of infiltrating a building) and am beginning "Chapter 2" I guess.
I love love love the gameplay loop, it's constantly satisfying and rewarding you as a player. It helps that the day to day gameplay (even if you're not doing missions) is satisfying and fun too.
Re: The narrative design, I'm not sure whether the more "optional" aspect of backstory and dialogue (mostly of Big Boss) is a result of the game being interfered or edited by the developer/publisher in the late stages of the game's development. It seems like (from my experience with the game as well as the spoiler-free reviews/articles and analysis I have read) the game has been curtailed and heavily edited in a way. That's the main feeling I get from the story and the way it is told.
If the reliance on cassette tapes was a conscious decision in an attempt to experiment with narrative and how it is given to the player (instead of the standard -gameplay / cutscene and / or linear story). It certainly is interesting and a novel idea to make the player gave to go out of their way to listen to most of the salient points of the plot. In terms of pacing, it has left this game feeling all over the place as its narrative beats are oddly doled out.
As I type this, I've just finished Mission 29, Codetalker seems to be Exposition Talker right now....
